My fiance and I had the unfortunate experience with dealing with Richard Booth, the owner of Richard Booth Jewellery.

My fiance and I went to his store on Cumberland Street to inquire about wedding rings. We asked him simple questions about how his rings compared to other stores and he went on a rant about how his rings are crafted with "intelligence" and it would take years for someone to learn what he does. I asked him what he meant by "intelligence" for rings (i.e. what qualities make a good quality ring) and he said "I already told you."
Then I asked "Well, for rings with the same # of karats and size, what makes your rings different / better than other rings from other stores? What exactly are the qualities? Is it clarity? Shape? Shine of the rings? Tell me something that is actually measureable."

Then he had the AUDACITY to insult me and said that I was "asking questions like a 6 year old child" (!?!)

I could not believe what I had heard.

He could not articulate why exactly he charges the insane prices for his average jewelery and had the audacity to disrespect and insult me as a potential customer.

We had a restricted budget for rings and when we told him this, he told us to leave and look elsewhere. I was completely shocked by his unprofessionalism and arrogance.

At one point, one of Richard's salesperson (a very nice saleslady) had to intervene and told Richard to go to the back of the store so she could help ease our frustration and smooth out the situation. However, by that time, we were inconsolable as we were shocked by what we experienced. We told the salesperson that Richard Booth needs to check his ego and work on his customer service skills and we were APPALLED by what we experienced. It was actually quite sad to see that one of Richard's staff had to smooth things over and console us. We felt great empathy for that staff member to have to work and deal with such an arrogant, pompous person like Richard Booth.

Richard Booth lacks respect for customers and should not be conducting business. STAY AWAY and BUYERS BEWARE. Do NOT deal with this merchant.

I cannot believe he said you were asking questions like a 6 year old!! Its too bad really, cause all those questions are pretty standard if you ask me! Hope you found the perfect rings in the end!

Established since 1975, Richard Booth Fine Jewellery is nestled into Old York Lane; a historic cobblestone laneway for pedestrians in the Yorkville area. The curved stainless steel facade of our store suggests that something unique and exciting is happening here. The design of the store is actually a metaphor for my jewellery design.
