I joined spa lady in October coz i wanted to get back to the gym. When i went for consultation i asked about group workouts and membership fees. I was not given any clear answer about the membership fees and the lady kept saying we will get into that. Finally she said that the membership includes the group workouts. I signed up coz i thought it was a good deal. In January i lost my job due to school commitments and when i called spa lady to cancel they told me i had to come in. I went there and they told me i could not cancel coz i had group workouts. I had used 7 of the workouts since i joined in october and i asked them why they did not tell me that group was separate from gym membership and the lady could not give me a straight answer. When u sign their forms they will tell you what you want to hear so pls my fellow people read every single line. My account is beyond overdrawn with bank charges for non sufficient funds. Spa lady will not cancel my membership at this time.

AVOID.

Going in person to the club to cancel, or sending an email to the general manager to cancel (and hearing back from her) is not good enough. Make sure you fill in the cancellation form, and GET A SIGNATURE FROM THE STAFF ON THE COPY THAT THEY RECEIVED IT. They will deny that they received it unless YOU HAVE THE PROOF that you sent it. And they will continue taking money out of your account.

Looks like CBC needs to do another episode on these scammers....

All over all the locations there are signs stating if you refer someone you get a discount on your monthly fees. So I referred someone and I told the girl at century park and she said she had never heard of such discount and was very confused and would have to contact head office. Excuse me ? You work here! Ask your manager ! Look at your own advertising! Useless.

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND STAYING AWAY FROM SPALADY!! NO STAR RATING HERE! From my experience they really don't care about customer service or discrimination agaist children. When visiting this gym I was kicked out after paying $60 for child care. My kids had non infectious scabs on there body and we were asked to get out. They said that other moms were uncomfortable on how my kids looked. I asked for a refund on my kids passes as I will not be coming back there and they said they credited my account. And they cannot refund me at the club. They made a huge scene in front of everyone and I left crying. I sent a letter to head office and they felt that they were in the right for kicking us out because of the way my kids look. I WILL NEVER SUPPORT A COMPANY THAT SUPPORTS DISCRIMINATION AGAINST ANYONE!

I love going to the spa lady, but when I forget my membership some women who works at the front desk let's me in because they know I work out there but for odd reasons this woman who knew i was a member back then didn't let me in because I don't have a membership and I don't have my identification, first of all it was kinda rude that this person would think that I'm just a woman coming by to see if I can get in for free!?! Like what?? Set your mind set you guys just lose a customer.

I can't believe how a gym can operate the way they do by scamming people out of money. I signed up at Spa Lady at Northgate in December 2015 for a 2 year contract and then she started pushing a trainer on me which I accepted but when I got home I called her back and said I want to cancel because I felt like I was forced into this contract. She eventually talked me into just cancelling the trainer portion so I kept the 2 year gym contract. Because of health issues in April I had to cancel my membership so I was charged 154.00 for cancellation fees. This was not an option I had to stop because of health reasons and even if I had brought in a doctors letter they would not cancel the fee of 154.00 for a senior on a pension. I sent two emails and no one got back to me because they said they never received them even though I got a ID number which shows they did receive it. When I called Calgary to talk to someone the girl I talked to just keep sighing into the phone like I was a problem to her that she didn't want to deal with. If she worked for me she would have been fired on the spot. What a way to treat the public. I guess they need the money more than I do.....good luck if you decide to join....they are rip off artists.

DO NOT sign a contract at this gym! You can find a gym that has a lot more to offer for the same price. Also If you move somewhere that they do not offer any services they will do nothing to help you! Lots of other gyms will cancel with no fees it you are moving away from their services

Was kind of disappointed. I have been going to SPA Lady for over 20 years, however, lately, I am nnoticing every time I have asked for help at SPA Lady Heritage location - Southside the staff are so busy recruiting new members that they don't even bother giving time to the existing members who have been loyal customers for many many years.
So far Kim has been the best manager and is willing to help, however, on Tuesday April 5th, I requested for help from the new manager UTA, who was just so busy recruiting new members that she did not even bother to respond to my query. I also left her voicemail and she did not even return my call.
That is unprofessional. In today's economy the staff should actually be going one step further to help their clients and with a smile. Half of the time nobody smiles there.

So far there is only one lady who I find is pleasant and will take time and say hello event though she is a trainer and her name is Mary..we need people with her skills to be the manager not anybody who just is busy selling memberships and totally ignores members who are currently visiting the facility.

I am hoping Kim comes back to this location soon.
I hope SPA lady facility can allow us have more pleasant experiences

I had signed up for a free trial but after reading these reviews I abruptly changed my mind. When Spa Lady called me about the free trial I declined saying after reading reviews I do not want anything to do with this company.

One thing I noticed when reading these reviews is that most of the people who gave rave reviews were nonmembers. Weird!!. Maybe employees of Spa Lady write 5 star reviews to offset all the 1 star reviews. Either way I want nothing to do with this company. I am on my way to the YWCA

I have been going to spa lady at west edmonton mall since October 2015 I was treated by Amanda who signed me up like she has known me for years, all of the other trainers come over to say hi and Kelly and I go we have a lot of fun Thank you spa lady for the best customer service and your friendly staff.

3. My experience:



I am writing this on behalf of my girlfriend, her Spalady membership and to my experience the poorest customer service that I have ever received with any company that I was dealing with.

It all started with a „win“ of a free 2 week Spalady trial at an art store in the mall. So beginning of this year (March 2015) my girlfriend first visited Spalady as she was called upon her win of this trial. Nobody had ever introduced her to this free trial, instead she was talked into a 1 year membership at full cost at the West Edmonton Mall location as she was working in the mall and had a vehicle for the commute. She had specifically asked if there was any cancellation fees related to this contract before signing, in case her current living situation changed, and the previous question was answered with NO. There was not any kind of cancellation fees mentioned by this employee after asking about it.

She had used the service rarely up to the point where her car was sold and she had moved to a different apartment with a different job. In this case she was wanting to cancel the membership as she had no reasonable way to commute to the gym.

June 2015: She had walked into the gym she had signed up at and explained the situation to them. Even though she was verbally informed differently, they had referred her to a 160$ cancellation fee that would be needed to be paid. This number can not be found anywhere on the contract and the outrageous sum is equal to paying 5 extra full months oft the membership. After reexplaining the situation to them they had again referred that there was nothing they could do as the only thing they relate to is her signature on the contract.

My girlfriend had moved on and called the head office explaining the situation again about the wrong information from the employee and again they were not willing to come up with any solution other than paying the fee. They were at no point willing to recognize that their Employee had made a mistake.

3 month had past (payments were ongoing without use of the gym, August 28) and I myself got to know about the situation, and as a customer service representative myself I knew that with the wrong information that was given, Spa Lady can not force through the cancellation fee based on the signature when Ashley had been informed incorrectly by the employee before.

I started the investigation and had called the branch to discuss the topic. They referred me to the head office. Head office was closed even though their hours clearly stated that they were supposed to be open as the Eest Edmonton Mall employee confirmed to me.

I waited a day, called them, explained them the situation and again I was referred that there was nothing they could do. I then called in the branch again and asked for the manager (which I was given the fitness manager). She had told me that the only one who could do anything about it is head office. I again called head office explaining the situation again. I was referred that only the general manager (Adalma Gonzalez) of the gym would be able to resolve this problem.

We called her and she did not get back to us with further information as promised and told me that she would not talk to me about the account as I am not the account holder (misunderstanding the Canadian privacy act). This is a total untrue statement, as I only got involved with this as the company is showing themselves very uncooperative and my girlfriend had given me and Spalady verbal permission to be involved with this discussion. By Law I am allowed to be involved with this as long as my girlfriend allows. I assume they did not want to talk to me as I was being very certain about a proper resolution of this situation and have experience in a similar business.

Face to face with Adalma we explained the situation to her. Everything we had said was just cut down by the fact that my girlfriend had „signed the contract“. After about 30 minutes of poor argumentation on Spaladys side she had mentioned that she wished she could do something about it but does not have the authority to change the contract, but offered things like freezing the contract. We had left the office with a extension to Nelson from head office who could apparently resolve this problem.

I called head office. The extension she had written down for us was wrong and when we were forwarded to Nelson, he did not answer the phone, and as I found out further does also not have any authority regarding the cancellation. I had then instead talked to somebody who as everyone else referred us to the signature on the contract and would not forward us to somebody with authority about the account. I then asked Spalady to freeze the contract while we are not using this service and are in disagreement, but was referred to a 100$ fee for freezing the contract that Spalady was absolutley serious about. At this time Spalady makes us accept to continue our payments that we are expecting to be refunded since June 2015 as we are not using the service and Spalady has to realize that they are in the wrong. I am currently waiting for contact information to the vice president Rochelle Greenman of Spalady to discuss the issue with her.

As I am in quite a bad mode about this company I had talked to many people about this and even came across somebody who is dealing with the exact same issue.

I had asked all oft he spalady employees if they think they provide good customer service which they had all started stumbling on. I am willing to cooperate with spalady to find a reasonable solution but will then pass on to go public with this story to warn any possible new customer about signing with this company.

Pros:
+ Very clean facilities
+ Female-only environment makes it easier to work out the way you want to
+ Easy to reach gym with public transportation routes
+ Some of the staff members are friendly and professional -- my 1 star is for them (see below)

Cons:
- Coercive tactics used in selling contract membership. I was invited by a friend to come with her to Spa Lady, because she could "bring one friend for a free workout". As the "free guest", I was not allowed to work out until I spent over 40 minutes in an office listening to consulting/goal recording/gym plan information.

- One particular staff member was --extremely-- pushy and disrespectful when I tried to leave without booking an appointment. I clearly stated, "I will book an appointment when I know my exact availability", but the staff member kept asking when will I know when I'm free. She said "well aren't you a busy girl..." in a very snarky tone of voice after I kept trying to say no in every polite way possible. Her line of questioning and aggressive approach completely soured my positive impression other employees left beforehand. I would have honestly called to book a future appointment if this one woman accepted my "no" the first time.

- The same employee as above booked me for 3 appointments without my knowledge or consent. I would receive voicemail from other staff as a "friendly reminder" of my workout sessions with her.

- Staff do not listen when you ask them to remove your contact information and stop calling. I've told two staff members on separate occasions to stop contacting me. It stopped for six months, until a new girl left a voicemail thinking I was a recent gym client.

Amazing service. I was taken through my first workout with one of their fitness consultants Brittney . She was so nice and understanding, made me laugh and ever since every time I come in she waves and asks how I'm doing. They all do their best and I am so so happy with the results I'm getting.

I love the atmosphere at Northgate Spa Lady. All the staff are friendly & make me feel welcomed! It's a place that women of any shape or size can feel comfortable to get their sweat on. They have fantastic Group exercise classes that are Free! As they come with your membership. Except a class called VIPr is a slight additional cost but is amazing & I don't think any other places has that class other than Spa Lady.

The personal trainers also are all different shapes and sizes but makes me feel very comfortable as even a larger lady can be fit! The things they do in the gym with their clients is amazing and I like to see their clients laughing. I most definitely will be recommending this club to my friends& co-workers! Thank you Spa Lady for being so awesome!

Spa lady north gate is an amazing gym, the staff are super friendly and the personal training department is there to help 100% of the way. They recently went through some renovations opening up the training floor and bringing in new equipment. It's awesome!

Going to Northgate Spa Lady for the last 19 years has been the best thing I could do for my health and well being. I have made so many friends there, from staff at the front desk, to instructors, personal trainers and other Spa Lady members! My personal trainer, Chelsea, is amazing! I asked her to make sure I am challenged every time and she hasn't failed me yet!! I love Veronica's classes, too. She always encourages the class to challenge themselves and she has such a variety of routines, you're bound to find one that gets your heart rate going.
The only negative things I could say about the gym is the bathrooms are dated - they could really use a makeover; and the there are times when the dust bunnies start popping out from behind the equipment in the aerobics room.

I have been a member at Spa Lady Northgate since the end of January and it was the best move I have eve made. I find the staff and my personal trainer helpful and open to any questions I have at any time. I feel that they all show an interest in how my workout went on any given day. They are friendly and respectful. I am so happy with everything that I have accomplished that I have signed on for more personal trainer sessions. The fact that I can go in and use the equipment any time is a plus. Cardio equipment is great as is all the equipment. Awesome staff.

I love how Spa Lady is great for mothers! I know my son is being taken care of well, they have created a welcoming place and everyone knows his name! The child care workers also understand that I cannot get a great workout in, in only an hour, so they provide two hours! The machines are clean and always working.

I would not recommend this gym to my worst enemy. This location is filthy, stinky, and noone in the gym wipes down equipment after use. Upon arriving, the staff at the front is rude, and bitchy. There is one bigger lady who claims to be a "personal trainer". Not sure how that's possible, she actually looks like a beached whale. She is so bitter. One day she lost her mind on me b/c I asked to borrow a lock, and she bitched about me walking with my outdoor shoes on to the changeroom in July.

There is no reason for the staff to be walking around nose up in the air. They are disgusting, and look like they are out of shape themselves.

Not to mention, I was paying 160.00 a month for 12 months (only 6 of those months have been used, along with 13 personal training sessions). Your personal trainers are annoying. They have your cell number, and text you ( A bit unprofessional don't you think). I had to change my number b/c the annoying Trainer was trying to hustle me to come in so she could make a dollar. Who the hell could work in a gym like that? Talk about a turn off from every gym out there. This has left a sour taste in my mouth as Ive never had to use a gym in my life! I will never sign a contact again.

In the end I am left paying 764 in unused personal training sessions. On top of 3 months (membership/training costs 160 x 3) Not to mention a membership cancellation 154.00. They need their money more then I do.

I am so disgusted, I will be reporting this gym to BBB. They are misleading, misguiding and should stop SCAMMING people. The manager who signs you up is Fake, walks around like shes hot shit.

Do not get suckered into this place !!!!
