Able Maids Ltd

I have used Able Maids for around 10 years. Never had any issues and they have always left my house sparkling clean. I am not sure about all these reviews and who has written them. I am a real long time satisfied customer, and can whole heartedly recommend them.

Booked a month ahead for a move out clean. Appointment was for 10:30. When they didn't arrive I called Kary at Able and he said the earliest they would be there was 1:30 as they were at a move out clean. I told him that was unacceptable as I was leaving town in the morning and had things to do in the afternoon. He flipped out and started yelling at me and then hung up on me. I ended up doing the clean myself, and being a senior, it was quite an ordeal. After using their service for 15 years this is the way I get treated!!!!!

Very likely the WORST excuse for a cleaning slash maid service in all of Alberta. Perhaps anywhere in the country. My wife and I should've believed the reviews that gave this 'company' one or zero stars. But, we like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and judge for ourselves. As others have written about Able Maids (what a misnomer that is!!!), don't ever, ever, ever hire this outfit. And by all means if you're silly enough to leave something - anything - of value lying around, it won't be there when you return home. Guaranteed. As another reviewer wrote a few months ago, they lost something while the Able Maids team was allegedly cleaning. Kerry - the incompetent owner slash manager slash operator of this 'business' - said it was his customer's fault, that they'd misplaced the item. Funny...we had the same thing happen. We, mistakenly, left something of monetary and more importantly sentimental value out while the three 'maids' were cleaning our condo. Next day, my wife realizes the item's disappeared. I can assure you she did not misplace it. After several attempts to contact Kerry, I'm still waiting for an email reply, and a returned phone call. Brutal customer service. Abominable cleaning. Not to be trusted. A complete rip off. Stay far, far, FAR away from "UNable Maids."

I read the reviews and found that some of the 5star reviews are the employees reviews lol. You see I worked here and is the worst place I've ever worked at. They DO use watered down dollar store products that when at jobs heard employees complain that Kerry is so cheap he waters down products and are useless for cleaning. Grime is left behind but it's cleaned grime I guess ..ewe Can work from 8-4 with no breaks and you eat your lunch in the back seat of the vehicle from job to job Not even a single break is offered, which is against the labour codes not even a lunch break is given Even after a job is completed so he demands every second of the day from you never ever been slave driven ever till I started work here. Trying to get my final pay and he is rude about it. Voice sounds nice but only a ploy cause he isn't that nice very prejudiced also Seems like he will only do Caucasians houses as everyone else is philthy housekeepers Will not even give him one star. Just not a nice person at all. Nice women terrible boss. Good luck girls. Won't let me post this review without a star didn't want to but have to give him one Doesn't deseve it though.

I thought that I could trust these people, but oh so not true. When items go missing and you question the owner he defends his staff and tells you that you must have misplaced the item. What a shame that this company is still in business.

I had a condo that needed cleaning. Booked them in and then found out the day of (actually, 2 hours prior) the appointment that because they couldn't find parking so left. It was a move in/out situation so my new Tenant couldn't even move in. Did this to me before a Stat holiday so I had to end up putting my new Tenant up in a hotel for 2 nights because the place wasn't cleaned and left me in a state of panic to try and find someone else to come in after the Stat to do the work. Owner said he could get them to come back in a week... are you serious??? Considering I booked it a month before my old Tenant moved out?? Got another company to come in and they told me that based on the crap that came out of the carpet, etc., it was never cleaned. Will never use Able Maids again and if you're looking for better service, etc., definitely look elsewhere!

Crappy work (can't be called 'cleaning' since it leaves the house almost as dirty as it was before the maids arrive), crappy products (can you say "dollarama"?), cheap, noisy vacuum cleaners that don't really suck up any dirt, ever-changing maids who seem to barely drag themselves around the house due to their lack of enthusiasm, and an owner/manager who has an over-inflated self-esteem, but who lacks in social skills and common sense (but has lots of nice things to say about his own company by pretending to be his own 'customers' :)
This cleaning company is a joke. Stay away

I was in desperate need of a cleaning. Had company coming for my sons birthday. Ran out of time to clean. Called. They were able to send 2 staff over the next day. They did a great job. All the guests at the party said the house smelled and looked great.

Your staff were on time and polite. They cleaned my home from top to bottom using the same products I buy from Safeway. I have tried many maid services who never showed up or tried to clean with a bucket a mop and a spray bottle or something clear. The cleaning products you use make my house smell nice and looks clean. I am going to have my house cleaned by your company all the time.

I received 2 hours of house cleaning as a Christmas gift from friends. They booked the cleaning, and like every other review on here, two girls showed up, barely any supplies, and a loud old vacuem. It took them double the time to finish, I received a huge bill, almost triple the amount of the estimate. We only paid the amount from the quote, after dealing with the pathetic, immature owner, left at that. Months later he tried to collect the rest from a collection company.

Just an absolute poor excuse for a business. Please save your money!

After having this company (ABLE MAIDS) do two (May 17th & May 29, 2014) VERY poorly done cleanings I regret ever having found them listed in the telephone book. Both of the cleanings were of empty dwellings - one a move-in and the other a move-out. The first one was the move-in which two women arrived at the specified time and date and when "finished" they told my son that the fee was $80 per hour for each of the two cleaners - I (when I contacted this firm)was quoted $75 per hour each worker. I was thrilled, initially, as we were in a panic to have the cleaning done as furniture was being delivered later that day (more to the story about why we were in such a panic but I won't get into that).

The cleaning job was not done very well but we accepted it - stove was not cleaned nor was stove or fridge cleaned in behind and under. Flooring was hardwood throughout except for basement which was some carpet and tiles.

My son then re-hired them to clean the dwelling (a Town-House) that they were moveing out of which also was empty with the exception of one sock left behind and a rack/holder for a shower which the the two cleaners claimed there was a lot of junk left in the house. In five (5) hours the two cleaners sprayed the oven but did not wipe it out, wiped the cupboards out, vacuumed(carpet)and cleaned one bedroom and one bathroom on the top floor and the carpeted stairs from the top floor to the main floor. The main floor is laminate and ceramic and the bathrooms (4) are ceramic, only one of these was cleaned. There is carpeting on the basement stiars and this was not cleaned nor was the basement as my grandson had cleaned that himself. For this work we were charged $400+ and my son told them not to come back. My daughter-in-law and a friend went in and finished the job in one and a half hours. How is that for a comparison? I have a friend that does regular house cleaning and I consulted her on how long it takes her to do a house and she does a 3-story house (with furniture in it) in 5 hours BY HERSELF!!!

I also, have a friend that is blind and does her own house cleaning and I think she could have done a better job than these two "professional" cleaners did.

I definately would not recommend this company to anyone and will from now on check out the BBB before hiring anyone over the phone.

Don't waste your time hiring this company. 45 minutes later after arriving they handed me their bill. What was promised wasn't delivered, the kitchen floor was just cleaned with a mop and my dog's dishes weren't even moved, didn't move my dining room table chairs when they vacuumed, and left water spots on my dining room table because of the drinks they brought in. Called Kerry and 1/2 way through our conversation he said he was recording our conversation, told him it was against the law, for u have to disclose that before our conversation starts. Don't waste your time and money with this company

Ignorant owner/manager who argues over any and every complaint, inexperienced staff who don't clean even as well as my 12-year old, crappy vacuum cleaners that smell and make lots of noise without actually sucking up any dirt, "water" in bottles or crappy greasy substances that masquerade as "cleaning products" and some of the workers clean the toilet (including seats) with pieces of MY toilet paper. Nothing that is advertised on this company's page or what the owner promises ever happens. Save your money and hire a reputable business.

P.S. Why is there no 'no star' rating? This company does not deserve even 1/2 star

Reading these reviews, I wonder about the authors. I work for the company, and have dealt with people who are rude, and complain, while I am doing my darndest. I have worked on move outs where EVERYTHING was done to the customers satisfaction, and they did not pay. In fact she stated if we did not remove windows, she would not pay, so we did as asked, quoted her the hours we spent, and she would not pay. I worked a house where the floors were so bad we scrubbed them for two hours, with a scrub brush, to get the YEARS of grime off, and she complained. She also did not fully pay the bill, even though we spent longer then allotted. I use full strength cleaners, and when I am done, I can see a difference. I'm sorry most of these reviews are negative, but also have to address the new employee issue. A lot of our ladies try it for a little while, and decide it is not for them. We do make every effort to right every wrong, but when people are abrasive on the phone, it tends to get our backs up.

I have been using this service for about 8 months without any concerns. Hopefully the organisation has read the reviews and have improved their customer relations.
I have referred this company to friends who are also happy with their services.

I have never had such a terrible experience with cleaning. I have used other cleaning companies as well as cleaning ladies I hired based on friends' referral.
Able maids was far the worst. I wish I had checked the online reviews before using their services. Below are the details of my experience with them:
First I was given a quote over the phone as the owner said he is fairly comfortable providing an estimate over the phone. I provided all the details in terms of square footage, number of bedrooms etc.
I was given a quote of 3 hours maximum to clean the entire house. I was told they need a minimum of at least 1 hour cleaning.
They never showed up at the 1st scheduled appointment, I stayed home waiting for them. When I called them the owner, Kerry, said one of his staff collapsed and he was with her at the hospital, he said he tried calling me, but I was home all morning and never received his call. I would have seen his number on the call display plus I have an answering machine if he had called.

The 2nd time (2nd appointment) two ladies showed up and were not told anything about my house nor what estimate I was given. One of them was very new on the job and didn’t seem to know at all what she was doing despite the fact I was assured they were sending very experienced staff.
I left the house for a little while to run errands and came back home.
I first noticed they didn't dust the blinds in my kitchen (wooden blinds) when I asked them they told me it would take longer than 3 hours and would cost me more if they were to include that.
They have not cleaned 2 bedrooms as I had already cleaned one and the other one was being used for storage. Given that I was quoted 3 hrs for the entire house and 2 bedrooms didn't need cleaning this would have given them more time to do the blind or do the dust.
The kitchen was also fairly clean as I had just finished cleaning all the cupboards the day before.
I left a message to the owner letting him know that they haven't cleaned as per my expectations:
• The brush used for cleaning the toilet bowl was left on the carpet while they were cleaning, anyone who has done basic cleaning knows that the brush used for cleaning the toilet bowl needs to be kept in its holder/container for hygienic reasons.
• They didn't vacuum under the rugs in the dining room, the living room and the family room,
• The floor in the closet by the main entrance was not vacuumed or wiped: I found dust balls under the shoe rack the following day when I reached to get a pair of shoes,
• The mirror of the front entrance closet doors was not wiped or shined with windex,
• The debris left from outdoor shoes was still there in the railing of the entrance closet door and on the closet floor,
• The stairs railings were not wiped or dusted. The furniture legs were not dusted. The baseboard were not wiped nor did the kitchen cupboard external surface (this is part of the basic cleaning as stated on their website.).
• The external surface of the fridge or stove were not wiped either
• The furniture were only dusted on the surface not the side (only where it was apparent), and not all furniture was dusted.
I had dusted the piano myself prior to them coming and asked them to do the rest.
• The TV was not wiped as one of the cleaning ladies told me they don't touch TVs, which was never communicated to me by Kerry.
• The bathroom sinks had still dirt showing, the shower tiles were not cleaned either.
• None of the Picture frames were dusted or baseboards or the wooden blinds in the kitchen

None of the basic cleaning was done, and my house was fairly clean as we are only two adults:

I realized the extent of the bad job they did after they left. I left a message to the owner but nothing came out of it. He left me a message two weeks after and only after he realized the payment didn't go through.
When I realized Kerry, the owner, was not going to follow up on my complaint I have decided to stop the payment, which was by the way almost double then what I was originally quoted over the phone.

It is unfortunate that this kind of business is allowed to operate given the number of complaints and bad reviews I have seen when I started checking after the horrible experience I've had.

I have filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau to prevent others from having similar experiences.
I have also sent a letter to the business via registered mail since they have not responded to my initial concerns.

I always get as much information as possible before hiring someone. In this case I had requested they come to give me an estimate but they said they don’t do that but rather provide it over the phone.
The information I provided was very accurate as well what I needed done, in the end even though two bedroom didn’t require cleaning the cleaning ladies still took 3 hours and haven’t even cleaned the house.
Next time I will make sure to check the BBB site for the rating as well as online reviews before hiring the service of a company.
The only reason I am giving it 1/2 star is because it's the lowest rating I can give.

• Clean outside of all small appliances (including microwave)
• Clean and shine sink and taps
• Spot wash walls
• Empty garbage; reline garage can

Bathrooms
• Clean the sink, tub, shower, toilet and counter top

• Clean corners and edges along the wall. Do all baseboards.
• Shake out or vacuum all area rugs before replacing them on the clean floor.

Vacuuming
• Vacuum carpet using the pattern.
• Vacuum your way out of a room.
• Vacuum going down the stairs, not up.
• Move all moveable furniture before vacuuming, and replace it.
• Vacuum couch and chair cushions. Vacuum under cushions too.
• Vacuum under the beds.

If they were to follow half f the above guidelines it wouldn't be so bad.
Why mislead customers?

We hired them after doing some renovations in our house and told them that our number one priority was to get rid of all the dust. We were told they would do a complete walk through of the house to ensure we were satisfied. However, when my husband arrived home half of the maids were gone and all of their supplies were packed up and the remaining were on their way out the door. A complete walk through was not completed. At first glance the house appeared clean. They claimed to have wiped all of the walls but the frames of all the windows and doors were still dirty, as well as the tops of light switches/outlets. I could tell some walls were wiped, as you could see the wipe marks (which is not good), and they had missed half of the wall. They also left water marks on where they had wiped in the bathroom and kitchen. The floors were clean, however the baseboards were not. Also, less than half the blinds were cleaned. When I called to complain the owner claimed a complete walk through was done and that he talked to my husband and he said he was satisfied. All my husband had told him was that his first impression was good. Do not waste your money! We paid for 6 hours of service, but this did not save 6 hours of my time!

Unfortunately did not read these reviews before we booked them. Owner makes promises of a complete walk through bit the maids were packed up and half of them gone when my husband got home . appeared clean at first glance but they claimed to have wiped all walls but all the window and door frames were still dirty. You could see where they had wiped because there were water spots everywhere. the floors seemed clean but the baseboards were not done. When I called to complain he insisted that a full walk through was done and that my husband said he was happy with it.

My husband and I cannot explain how disappointed and disgusted we are with this company and the "service" they provide. The two maids showed up without any cleaning supplies except a bottle of oil from dollarama and a very old poor quality vacuum with cut up T-shirts for rags. They showed up over an hour early, and did not even introduce themselves just walked right in and dumped their garbage bags of rags and drug the dirty vacuum in. We were quoted 2.25 hours for the service at a certain price, we had told the owner the exact square footage and how much hardwood/carpet/bedrooms/bathrooms everything there was in the house prior. after 2.5 hours I checked to see progress, they were not even done half of the upstairs and were moving very slow. At this point we cancelled the service for the basement and just asked for the upstairs to be done. Nothing was clean at the end, dust was just smudged and pushed around, the floors had dust and foot prints and actual piles they swept up but did not throw away. All of our picture frames that they did clean, had dust and smears all over them as if the oil they brought was used on the entire house. They were suppose to bring all of their own cleaning supplies, but ended up using all of ours, 2 whole rolls of paper towels, half a bottle of our windex, our stove cleaner, our lysol. Our floor wiper. When they first came in they wanted to "borrow my swiffer" well we don't use a swiffer so then they were very upset to hear that I actually hoped they would "clean" my floors like the description on the website said they would. none the less, nothing was as described, house looks no better then before they came, bill was twice as much, and when we called to try and civilly speak to the owner he called us liars, he was one of the most immature unprofessional and ignorant people we have ever dealt with. Do not use this service.

What a waste of time hiring this company!!! They didn't use cleaning products and didn't have adequate cleaning supplies/equipment. Owner of the company came back to inspect the cleaning job after I called to complain. The property was vacant and evidently not cleaned at all, zero ownership or customer satisfaction. He was obnoxious and extremely rude. I had to ask him to leave my property.
Able maids are not able at all and is shocking they are allowed to be in "service" to rip people off. AWFUL!!!

THE WORST EXPERIENCE I have ever been through. Not only did the owner fail to provide his staff with the correct address which resulted in his staff being late for the cleaning service I requested which was for a walk out in an apartment. My walk out I had scheduled was for that same afternoon!!! But then he told me they no longer had time to do my cleaning that day! He screwed me over!! How unreliable and rude!!! Never will I recommend this company to anyone! Doesn't deserve even half a star!

WORST CLEANING EVER! I had this "cleaning" company in to do a move out/in clean and I'm pretty sure they just dumped some lemon cleaner on the floor so the smell briefly gave the illusion that they actually did something. They didn't touch the walls, baseboards, inside of the windows, inside the cupboards or fridge, or vacuum any carpet. The bathroom is still covered in soap scum and hair from the previous tenant. Not ONE SINGLE BASIC EXPECTATION for a move out/in clean, in my opinion, was met (I have been professionally cleaning houses myself for over 10 years)! The only reason this company deserves 1/2 a star rating is because they showed up but it's mostly because that is the lowest rating this site allows. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HIRING THIS COMPANY!!!

If it were possible, I'd go with zero stars. I gave this business every chance in the book and they managed to fail at every step - from the owner's abrasive, boasting style to the ever-changing maids (and their lack of experience), to the 'coloured water' they call cleaning products.

I am a landlord that has used Able Maids many times in the last year. I am impressed with the professional service I have always received and the quality of work second to none. This company has saved me thosands of dollars and I recommend them to anyone who wants a job done on budget and done right
