I went to this place twice. Both times I was ignored for 5 minutes plus. The first time I was ignored while the employees talked about and ridiculed the customer that was just on the phone with one of them. Then they proceeded to talk about how much they hate the person that was off that day and that one of them had to work with this person the next day. Absolutely unprofessional I know you can't expect much from a low wage but this place is ridiculous. I was able to find what I needed on my own and would have purchased but the audacity and disregard of the staff actually pushed me to leave and go spend more money elsewhere.

The animals (especially reptiles) are not being cared for properly. When I voiced my concern, I was told it was to avoid extra work. One bearded dragon was missing an entire toe. No small animal had any hay to eat and no chew toys. There was a tank full of dead fish and the rest had a horrible case of ich. The staff are giving wrong information on the care of their animals and should not be allowed to keep animals in such poor conditions. The staff are uneducated and the animals are neglected.

I've been here more than a few times and have gotten animals, cages, and other products from here. My first few visits seemed okay.
I went in today and noticed many animals didn't have the proper living arrangements, especially the degus. They require a lot of space to run around and play, also a metal cage because they WILL chew and eat the plastic. They were stuck in a small plastic cage and looked very unhappy. I didn't look too much into their food but I also believe they were being fed wrong - which can easily lead to diabetes or other health related problems.
Many homes just had paper towel laid down for bedding - which 'might' be okay but it wasn't asthetically pleasing and that can easily turn away customers.
A lot of items were overpriced and the whole store looked messy.

One more thing that really bothered me was the cat they had running around the shop. I love the fact that it can interact with customers but it has to be friendly! This thing came up to me for me to pet it, and proceeded to bite me twice. Overall I am very unimpressed.

How terrible. An accident waiting to happen. Just plain rude and unappreciated. And whose paying for this anyways. After entering the store carefully, making my way to the middle, turned right down the first aisle after a diagonal left ending over to look at the fish in the lower aquariums my butt jammed one of the aquariums which was sitting on top of another aquarium surrounded by a bunch of other aquariums that seemed to make up an aisle. I was approached by 2 of the salespersons separately within minutes asking if i need help. Nope just looking. Kind of like your in a restaurant and you've just taken the first bite of your steak not knowing the waitress is watching and just as you start chewing she comes up and asks hows everything. How the f are you suppose to know. You just got here you just started. However, I'm just stating that cause i think it is kind of funny. It may come down to what you look like. Don't you just love it when people say is there still racism out there in this day and age. However, after figuring out what i came for cause i already knew it seemed that the taller girl was assisting somebody already, i back pedalled to the middle of the aisle i saw one of the workers who seemed to be babysitting a youth female in the back. I'm very impulsive, i would have bought your whole shop if i could have afforded it. I came with the intention of getting a few more tetras, a couple of plecos and couple of small catfish. I did get the two plecos, the 5 tetras and some other fish which I do not know the name of, which the salesperson didn't know either. There were 3 names written on the tank i do not remember what they were. There were 3 super tiny black striped pleco sharkish. I asked the salesperson what they were she said she wasn't sure. I asked her if she could find out what they were she took 2 steps she may or may not have said something to the other salesperson. The other salesperson did not even look at her. She turned and said she is busy with another customer. One of the names started with black or had black something in the name. She climbed the ladder, not looking at me saying by reason of deduction as she was looking in the tank they were the only black fish in the tank so it had to be them. Nope. Found out they are Zebra Ottos. 3 of these suckers fit on my pinky fingernail and there would still be room. Here is the thing I already had gotten 5 tetras and she did a poor job at rounding them up. Next were the 3 super tiny black bottom feeders. I thought that she was getting frustrated because she was having trouble finding them. She almost squished one on the glass. Next were the 2 plecos, she just started sweeping like crazy trying to catch those fast suckers. She added them to the bag with the 3 smaller fish. I mean the plecos were small but they could have inhaled those 3 in one mouthful and not even known it. I wanted to get 5 other tetras, the ones at the very end of the second row with dorsal fin looked to be maybe white and black and one super small see through fish about the size of a dime. I decided to just get the see through fish fearing she might injure one of the other fish or the little girl might get into some type of trouble in the back and you could see that as well, but obviously she was out of view, she could not hide her frustration or service fast enough. I decided to stop there. I must also add after she got the plecos and added them to the 3 smaller fish she then asked me if I wanted anything else still standing on the 2 step ladder not even making eye contact. I said yes I will take the see through looking one. I must also add saying if you do not like our service go someplace else is the same as saying go back to your own country. I think people become complacent and forget why it is they started doing what they do. A false sense of entitlement. Whose the real boss anyways, isn't it the one with the money. Read between the lines people. Are you a salesperson or a babysitter. You ought to show some respect, maybe you don't watch tv maybe you believe that the United States is a whole other country on an island. If you no longer love your job get a new job. If you don't like your job and can't do any better that sucks. 15 minutes and $52 later. If you could believe it there are worse places. Just for chits and giggles check out the Petcetra on Empress and Ellice in Winnipeg. Check out the fish section. I was there yesterday Nov 14. If you want to see the dead and neglected check it out for yourself.

Is this review even real? It seems too hilarious to be true.

wow-wee, this person must've been having a really rough day! I've been to Pet Traders many times over the years with my daughter (even bought Lucy, our first rabbit there!) and the staff have been more than helpful and pleasant each time. I mean come on, nit picking on every single detail that is not up to your standards? I do admit this was pretty hilarious to read, some parts just don't make any sense whatsoever. I do think that this is a highly unfair review, but I realize everyone has their own opinions. As for me, I will continue shopping at Pet Traders!

i live in Kenora and every time I am in Winnipeg, I stop in to see what is new. The owner is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He doesn't push any products, only explains them and indicates the pros and cons of each item. I have found their items are usually a little less than other stores.

The used item section of the store has saved me a lot of money, the only around which has one.

I will continue to shop their until I get out of keeping reptiles.

Staff and owners are not knowledgeable about products they carry. Poor customer service. I went to visit to purchase a marina moonlight which I purchased at this store previously. The clerk I was talking did not know what I wanted no matter how I described the light so I as for some else she refused so I asked to see a manager she turned walked away and said we dont carry any. I then seen the owner so I approached and asked her she didnt know what wanted but showed me what she thought they might be they were used but the correct lights. I didnt buy any because when I directed my complaint to her she did not offer an appology and kept making excuses and suggesting what I was saying was not truthful. She stated I was rude thats why I got treated the way I did.I thought a retail enviroment was a customer service enviroment so I thought it was normal to expect service and if not recieved to request someone else or still not satisfied request a manager. This is what I did if I am wrong in doing or expecting this then I appologize for my behaviour. The owners final solution was if you dont like our service shop somewhere else still no appology.

Unfortunately the above mentioned customer seemed to be having a bad day. I felt sorry for him as the owner and answered most of his questions. He kept insisting that we had certain product and talking about a specific colour of moonlight when all we had left in the packages was the moonlight hubs. I was trying to explain that I understood that the package had a colour written on it and that someone had removed the actual moon light itself. The customer seemed unwilling to understand or accept this. They just became impatient and rude indicating that we did not understand them. i am sorry the customer left unsatisfied but I could not sell him something that had been stolen. I hope that we can help them out in the future and avoid the misunderstanding.

Good Staff and wide selection of items for a wide range of animals. Used and new tanks and supplies for helping thoes people getting started.

Aquarium selection of fish can be a little limited depending on the time you drop in, they are willing to order in fish if avaiable though.

Prices are great and staff are far more helpful then most of the big box stores.
