One of their employees defrauded a blind 70 year old woman out of over $3500 who saved for over a year to travel. Here is the police report

Travel Agent Arrested for Defrauding Clients

Jun 12, 2015 07:37 ET

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The owner of an Oshawa travel agency has been charged with defrauding two clients who booked trips through his agency.

In April 2015, a Clarington couple booked a vacation through Algonquin Travel on King Street East in Oshawa and charged their trip to their credit card. When they received their credit card statement, individual components of the trip, totaling more than $4,500, were charged along with the initial $3,500 charged by the agency. The suspect had provided the victim’s credit card information to the other companies, while not forwarding any of the original $3,500 for the vacation.

In May 2015, a 70-year-old Oshawa woman paid cash to the suspect for a return flight to visit family in Saskatchewan. When she didn’t receive her ticket, a family friend looked into the matter and learned that the suspect never booked a ticket for the senior. The senior is visually impaired and had saved money for more than a year for the trip.

On Thursday, June 11, 2015, the suspect turned himself in to detectives in Oshawa.

John MILLS, age 49, of Gibbons Street in Oshawa, is charged with: Fraud Under $5,000 x3 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x3. He was later released on an undertaking with conditions.

Investigators want to ensure there are no other victims.
