Guest Review
I HAVE BOOKED SEVERAL TRIPS WITH MARLIN TRAVEL (CATHY HEDDERWICK) IN MARKVILLE and I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN VERY SATISFIED with the service provided.

I have been on cruises before and I am aware that Carnival Cruises is an American-owned company. In light of that, there are certain strict limitations in booking travel with a company that operates in a different country.

As a recently retired travel agent, I am also aware that there are specifically defined regulations set out by the Travel Industry of Ontario and travel agents must work and comply within these regulations.

With regards to special requests by customers at the time of booking, travel agents do advise travel suppliers of these special requests. However, these requests will be adhered to depending on availability and depending on if the requested services are provided at the resort hotel where the customer wants to stay or the cruise line on which the customer wants to sail.

1st time was fine 2005 not pleasant but got the job done. Booked our honeymoon 2008 spent $4000 with Cathy Hedderwick again and I had to do all the work and she still charged us the standard $50 fee, what did we pay her for?? We had to research all cruises on our own time, we had to find one that fit our schedule, I had to call carnival for our past guest number - all this should have been researched by her, she should have provided some help because I can call a 1800# much faster than going through this horrible 3rd party!!! I told her multiple times it is our honeymoon make sure we get something - I clearly wrote this in a e-mail advising there must be something for free, a gift of any size a cake, a $10 bad bottle of wine ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING!! I was very, very clear about this and my dad who is a long term client of theirs also reiterated make sure she gets something, she agreed but did nothing. Marlin Travel did nothing and neither did Carnival. I will never use this company again and recommend other people do not. I even got the same price as calling Carnival directly but with horrible service and fees. I didn’t even save money and I did all the leg work!!! I told Cathy how disappointed I was, she did not address any of my concerns, did not even pretend to rectify the poor service by acting nice just sent a standard email that fees are normal. Sure, if you got off your ass that would have been just dandy!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

I actually was trying to find a place to write a review about my travel agent and I found this review and was compelled to write something in return. My Parents now myself, have been working with Cathy for many years and have had amazing service and she has gone above and beyond for my whole family. She is very knowledgeable about many destinations and I would recommend her to anyone!!! When reading the review above I beleive (in my opinion) she was wanting a freebie, really who wants a "$10 bottle of bad wine" anyways? We have spent well over $4000 and never expected a freebie from Cathy just her expertise. We will continue booking trips with Cathy and PLEASE I stress this do not listen to the above review.
Thanks
Jane

Kathy made no suggestions, booked the exact same room I FOUND FIRST for the same price, did not help me with transportation at all on this trip or the one I booked in 2005 with her. When you spend $5000 on a vacation, it’s your honeymoon and Kathy promises free things PROMISES – THEN YES, I EXPECT TO BE REWARDED with a crappy bottle of wine or $7.95 cake Carnival sells since it’s the gesture I was looking for NOT THE VALUE!! Travel agencies are about service and my experience with this person was garbage, luckily my honeymoon was the best time ever thanks to my planning since I received NO ASSISTANCE.

Truth R&R:

Before you write about someone that negatively impacts their reputation, business, hence their future, you should investigative more thoroughly before coming to a conclusion. You cannot blame a travel agent, especially the one that is part of the "LARGEST" RETAIN CHAIN OF CANADA, for something that the cruise-line did not honor. It is not the agent's error, which you clearly did not comprehend!

Highly knowledgable travel consultants with many years of experience are competing with price driven online travel agencies many of whom have unexperienced travel agents with bare minimum knowledge of the product they are selling. Price war leads to lower prices, which is obviously better for the consumer, but this in most cases lead to reduction in customer service.

In addition to that, travel agencies commissions have been reduced by almost half in many cases in the recent years. This makes it harder for them to provide more service as they wish to. At the end of the day, they have to meet their requirements to retain their job.

I don't blame you. It must be your lack of education in this field!

Lastly, maybe you should have chosen another cruise-line such as Celebrity, Holland, or even Azamara who are more customer service oriented.

Good luck on your next booking.

Comments on my review are focusing on the lack of a gift I was promised. That was the final straw that caused me to berate this travel agency online and not the focus of my concern which I thought was obvious but here, let me spell this issue out again 1 year later just ‘cause I have some time at the moment (yay x-mas free time!)

My "education" in the field of travel is missing"?? Wow, did you actually read my posting??? I mentioned how it was I who found the cruise, I had to call Carnival for the past guest number and I had to arrange travel to-from New York and then to the ship itself even after being advised that Marlin would be booking it for me with me closer to my departure date. I was never even contacted again prior to departure about how I was getting to my destination or how about a simple ‘bon voyage’. Lame customer service that’s for sure. It was just the travel agent clicking “submit” online 1 year prior to the vacation and charging me $50 without providing a service I couldn’t have done by myself. The cost was the exact same as well so I guess the rumor that agents can get vacations for less is false – at least in this case. Lucky for me this nifty thing called the internet is here to stay (sarcasm) so there is no need for a travel agent nowadays unless you plan on plane hoping around the world and need a little direction. Travel Agencies are closing down left right and centre and that is all a-ok with me :)
