My wife brought her Tercel there 4 years ago for a check up, and they tried to convince her to replace the whole exhaust system for a repair that ended up costing $20 from a local mechanic. I vetoed repairing it at Attrell, as I have heard horror stories about them, but didn't mind her going there for oil changes...
Fast forward to last week, and she brought the vehicle in due to a "check engine" light... I was fishing with my son, so I wasn't able to look at the vehicle, but it turns out that some corrosion on the filler lid (where you put gas in) had some corrosion, and it was leaking "toxic gasses" and the recommended replacing it.... $690 later, I come back, and she tells me that the vehicle was in to the shop.... I go to get the part, after seeing the bill, guessing that she was scammed, because she is a woman who doesn't know anything about cars.... I get the filler neck (my original) and take it to MY mechanic, knowing full well that the part DIDN'T need to be replaced... He tells me that its just a bit of corrosion, and he could have EASILY used a wire brush, as he did last week to remove it for another customer... I ask how much it would have cost me? His answer ? $0 !!! I tel him that he is stupid, as he could have charged $690 like Attrell Toyota does, and he replied that she would have never come back, and that he doesn't treat his customers like cash machines.... I spoke with the Toyota manager, and he told me that "we don't repair, we replace" which is great for them, because they can cash in... I don't know if it is just plain greed, or its because their technicians are too stupid to repair things, so they just REPLACE IT all.... They also charged me for a new gas cap $34, because they said it was corroded too! Funny, plastic and rubber doesn't corrode, but they seem to think it does....
We will NEVER spend another dime at Attrell, or buy another Toyota for that matter, as these guys are SCAMMERS!! If you do choose to take your vehicle there, take it for a second opinion before you let them do anything, as this incident cost us almost $700, while the other exhaust incident could have been close to $1500 when they were done bending us over the barrel, and I could have had this $2000+ of work done for $20 at the local mechanic that I have been using....
Sad but true story
Wait until you have to go in for service. They will rob you blind and be rude while doing it.
