12 Reviews for Body Boomers Fitness Club Rated 3/5 Stars

I have been a member for 12 years, and I have never had a problem. All businesses have issues, but these clubs, of which I have been to them all, are run better than any other company that I have seen. I have reccommended lots of my friends, and family, and the staff have been more than honest when they have joined. I find that the people who post negative comments about this club, really have their own issues, and are looking to simply get out of a contract that they have agreed to.

AN HONEST OPINION January 3, 2012

Ive been attending body boomers bowmnaville location for almost 2 years. The facility is clean and tidy. Equipment is newer and broken or damaged machines/benches get fixed quickly. When i walk in the door i usually get a friendly welcome from staff and they do there best to solve any problems i encounter. Ive been to many gyms and although this isnt the best ive found it is a friendly atmosphere to train in. Financial issues are always a hot button,
Boomers could definitely take a lesson customer service. Work with people instead of reading off contracts word for word. Word of mouth travels quick and keeping customers happy should be your main objective.

It's a shame I couldn't give a negative-star rating. I signed up for a year membership and paid my fees upfront. Not really a great deal for what I paid considering how small the gym is and that the equipment isn't the newest. However it was close to home at the time so I went with it. No real issues with the gym itself while I was attending. 9 months into my membership I moved from Courtice to Toronto and cancelled my membership. I was informed that I would not receive any money back and that my membership would continue until the end of my contract at which time it would conclude. Fair enough, I had already paid upfront and expected nothing back. On the month that my membership was supposed to end I noticed a charge on my credit card from Body Boomers for a significant amount more than I had originally paid for membership in the first place, even though I had explicitly stated that I didn't want to renew - I hadn't even been into the gym in the last 3 months of my membership. Foolishly I did not call ahead and when I went in to sort the issue out I was told that no one was available to talk to me and that I would need to make an appointment to speak with someone. I made an appointment for later in the week. The morning of my appointment I received a phone call from someone at the gym telling me simply that they would not redact the charge and that I was stuck with another year of membership I couldn't use. This was within 15 days of them making this charge which I hadn't agreed to in the first place. The person on the phone was using my contract as a shield stating that "the auto-renew was part of the contract" and that their hands were tied. When I called Visa to dispute the charge I was informed that from Visa's records the merchant (Body Boomers) stated that my card was present during the renew which isn't possible seeing as how I hadn't been to Body Boomers in three months. I leave this matter in Visa's capable hands and will now be doing my best to make sure this gym doesn't do this to anyone else.

NOT OVERLY IMPRESSED August 25, 2011
By: JAJA

I belong to the Bowmanville BB and I can honestly say the staff that work the front desk aren't overly friendly - but that has never really bothered me as I just sign-in then go workout. In the past, I've had a few questions and not to pick on the front desk staff but they've never been able to answer my questions (in person or by phone) nor have they offered to find out for me either (basic customer service).

This is not the issue that has brought me on here to complain as customer service essentially doesn't exist anywhere anymore. So I finished my workout the other night and when I went out to the parking lot I noticed that someone had left their lights on in their car. Being that I'd like someone else to pay me the same courtesy, I went back inside and told the girl at the front desk the make and model of the car had their lights on in the parking lot. Her response? "yeah...I don't know whose car that is". So I ask "Can you not page into the gym, or physically go ask the 5 people there working out if they have said car as their lights are on?" again I am informed that they don't have paging capabilities in the gym so there's nothing she can do. Since I wasn't leaving she called another worker over to deal with the problem for her...he told me he'd take care of it but I get the feeling I was just getting lip service.

BUYER BEWARE April 1, 2011

You pay a monthly membership expecting the gym to be open at the posted hours yet BodyBoomers has a bad habit of closing early for 4 days when there is a long weekend. So forget working out on long weekends and the day before unless you are willing to accommodate THEIR schedule. If I want a 4 day weekend I take a vacation day but my Employer does not close early to give me a 4 day weekend once a month.

I've been a member of the Taunton location for 5 years, and have nothing but amazing things to say about that location. The others are nice as well. Just not as clean and friendly as that one. Staff is super nice.

Just thought I'd throw in some nice words, since it seems that some people don't read what they agree to. I use them all, and they R great.

I just recently joined the Bowmanville location of Body boomers, I have been to many gyms and I expected the normal treatment that you would expect from a gym.= treated like an idiot and forgoten.
I ended up having my consultation with Randy. He helped me out by making the gym a non intiminatingviroment,Writing out what I will have to do to get started on the right foot.
Also Trevor and Randy set me up with an amazing trainer named Scott for 3 demo sessions
Not one gym I have every been a member of has done this for me.
Thanks guys... Jackie :)

I was a member at the grandview location from 02 to 05..No probs. Awsome members and staff. I was told about the cancellation notice when I joined and was asked to initial that part of the agreement. When I cancelled my membership in 05 I gave my proper notice and it was done. Again..No probs. I worked out of town until Dec 08. Came back into town and rejoined their new bowmanville location. Again was told about the cancellation policy and initialed that part of the agreement. Awsome club. Great staff...Including Randy and Trevor who are there all the time. Im so sick of people who bash fitness clubs. Everytime I meet someone who has had a problem with any club its becuase they dont use it and feel like they shouldnt have to pay or that its the clubs fault they cant get their ass off the couch and do something. If you join for a year contract expect to pay for a year contract. But dont expect a price increase at bodyboomers becuase they promise your rate and stick to it. You people make me sick with you cry baby attitudes. Get your big asses off the couch and work out. Id be willing to bet that bodyboomers has around 3000 to 5000 members at each of their locations. Thats 4 locations for a grand total of 12000 to 20000 clients. Ya. They must be scammers and bad people. I see the owners working out with their staff and the members all the time. Great guys. I wish all the happy members who use the club would post on here like I have so we can blow you negative losers off this page. Sorry for the name calling but I know so many people at these gyms becuase Ive been working out all my life in this town and love the atmosphere at bodyboomers. Hate hearing people bash them. I guess we all feel a sense of pride and ownership when were there. Ive said my piece.

I joined with full intention of working out on a regular basis including a personal trainer. During working out I became quite ill, light headed and vomited. Also as a result of exercising I developed chronic migraine headaches.
My trainer refused to work with me for health reasons and advised me to see my family doctor before continuing with training(“I do not want you to have a heart attack on my floor” her words)
My family doctor ordered me to stop immediately any and all physical activity. My headaches and illness have stopped but do return if I do anything causing an elevated heart rate for any period of time.
All this information including a letter from my doctor was giving to the manager Trever in order to discontinue payments. He informed me I was obligated to the contract and payments would continue and my membership but on hold until I could return. I informed him that I would not be returning nor would I be working out there or anywhere as doctors orders. He told me that Body boomers is a business and it was not his problem. I have asked to a meeting with the owners to explain the situation to them but I have not once heard from them.
In speaking with other gyms in the area they all inform me it is their practice in a case such as this to stop payments immediately and put membership on hold until customer returns. If customer CAN NOT return the contract would be null and void. This sounds like common sense when regarding a health issue.
But not with body boomers! NOW YOU TELL ME, does this seem like a fair and honest business to you? They do not care one bit about the well being of their members. All they want is your money. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GYM!!!

I feel your pain. I am not paying and am fully confident in representing myself in court if needed.

    Same thing happened to me

This is EXACTLY the same situation I'm currently going through. I brought in a letter from my doctor, and Trevor said he'd put it on hold. I said this is indefinite and I can't afford to put out the money for a membership I cant use. He told me that's not his problem. He said I'm obligated to pay for the full year, despite the fact that I cannot use it. He had me so upset I had an anxiety attack and was crying. He said he'd fill out a cancellation form which I could barely sign because I was so shakey. I see after the fact he wrote on it that I agree to pay until next year!
    What did you do?

BUYER BEWARE!!! November 16, 2009

As detailed by the two other reviews, the Body Bookers of Grandview Street in Oshawa is totally dishonest in their representation of "contracts", IN MY OPINION!

My wife and son joined for one year. Following a year limited contract, they both canceled. The establishment was used once each, within the first month of membership, and both my wife and son found scheduling to go to a center was too much. They both went to the center and were NOT PERMITTED TO CANCEL! NOT PERMITTED!

When did things change to the point that when I sign on for a year that it equates to LIFE WITH NO POSSIBILITY OF EARLY CANCELING FOR 25 YEARS! Preposterous!

Anyone who has experienced this problem is urged to contact me at unidrv@live.ca. Hopefully, together we can help put commerce back where it should be. One year contract, then ask for renewal instructions. Anyone thinking about signing on with a fitness center in Ontario, should think well and hard before upsetting your life for the next two or three years, if, and when, you decide to go elsewhere.

I love body boomers personally. I hear alot about people talking things about cancelling and other stuff like that... but funny thng is right up i was told about the 60 day cancel time, which is ironic since i hear so many people complain about it... and the sales guy was good no pressure allowed me to think about it... and called me AFTER i had signed and already given my money to inquire how i enjoyed it and made sure that everything was good... I dunno about neone else but i am overally impressed...

NATASHA NOBLE October 10, 2008

I joined the gym last Dec, and enjoyed working out there. Unfortunately, circumstance happens and I am not able to make it anymore. I understand and completely honored the one year commitment.
Upon calling to cancel my membership for Dec, I was made aware that I cannot actually cancel it until Feb, because my "automatic payments" did not begin until Feb. So one year is Dec to Dec but they somehow will milk me for another 2 months.
That is really dirty business. I will not recommend this gym to anyone anymore.
Natasha
