I went into Compass on a Thursday to set a dinner reservation for my friend's birthday the next day Friday. I met the manager Michael and he set the reservation down in a book at the host's stand. The following day when my friends and I arrived for our reservation, we were seated by the host, who handed out dinner menus and Michael ended up being our server. Unfortunately, Michael told us the kitchen had closed early because of a slow night and took the dinner menus away and left us with bar menus. This was incredibly upsetting as it defeats the whole purpose of setting a reservation. Why would a restaurant close down its kitchen when there are still reservations for the evening? Not too mention Michael's service was extremely cold and unfriendly. He almost seemed pissed off that we were there as he was speaking to us with attitude. To be honest, he seemed like a 20-something yr. old spoiled brat. I've never been treated like this at a restaurant before. My friends and I left, walked across the street to the Firehall and celebrated my friend's birthday over serval pitchers of beer there. Compass is a disrespectful and poorly managed restaurant. I'll never go back.
This is the second time we went to Compass for a family occasion, and once again we were delighted. The location is beautiful, the menu has something to tempt everyone, and everything was beautifully prepared with fresh ingredients. What really sets Compass apart is the friendly and knowlegeable staff. We had six adults and a restless seven-year-old, and the waiters and kitchen staff did a great job keeping everyone happy. We are eager to go back!
I am an Oakville resident and frequent diner at the compass lakeside grill and lounge and each time i have brought different friends and family and have always enjoyed my experience. From personable and attentive service staff, to equisite flavours at a reasonable price you cant go wrong. With the beaufirul patio and modern dining room, this is the best dining experience you will find in Oakville! Oh yes and try the wings....amazing!
