12 Reviews for Hair CO-OP Rated 3.5/5 Stars

I recently tried the hair-co-op and cannot believe the woman who did my hair accepted money for the damage she did. Throughout the appointment she wouldn't stop bragging about her experience and even went so far as to critisize the other stylists in the salon!! I thought this was so unprofessional of her and it made me feel very uncomfortable. For someone with so much "experience" she gave me a 'shelf' hair cut (I looked like a 5 year old), she cut my bangs too short (so short I now have to pin them back!) and the highlights she put in start about an inch past my roots. I'm not one to go back and ask for a refund but I did end up going to a much classier, cleaner, far more professional/experienced salon in the market called "Texture". It is more expensive but I left Texture feeling relieved and beautiful. The quality of work was not even comparable. I'm sure there are also other fabulous salons downtown but one thing is for sure - avoid the hair-co-op. Clearly by reading many of these other reviews, there are too many people who have wasted money and time at this salon. It may be cheap, but as I should of figured, it's for a reason.

AWESOME! December 1, 2011

I have only ever had great experiences at Hair Co-op. I have been going there for a while but recently I tried out another spot that was closer to my place and they completely messed up my hair. So I went into Hair Co-op and got Amanada to fix my hair and it looked amazing. She was so sweet and took her time to make sure I was completely happy with my cut and colour. I am really impressed with their service.

    VERY VERY UNPROFESSIONAL

I must say I will never go back to the Hair Co-op after witnessing the totally unprofessional behaviour by Donka and Sofia.

I would strongly suggest that not only DO NOT make an appointment with DONKA OR SOFIA. If you walk-in DO NOT let them anywhere near you they are just bad hairstylist.

SATISFIED April 17, 2010

Hair CO-OP is great. I've been going there for years, and don't see that changing anytime soon.

I was looking for simple touch-up colour (that wouldn't leave me with two-toned hair, as I've experienced in the past at other places) and a trim, and found Sandra to be excellent. And I got the job done at half the price of my usual salon. Sandra, as far as I'm concerned, will be my regular stylist until further notice!

I just moved to Ottawa, and I didn't know where to go for a haircut, and colour, there are so many places in downtown, I moved here to look for a better job, so that been said, I was looking for a place where I could get a good job done to my hair, without paying an arm and a leg,the beauty of this salon is that you don't have to make an appointment like other places, a couple of people that I met, recomended me to go to the Hair Co-op. So I went,I ask to get a colour done, they took me right away, The Hairstylist that I got, was very pleasant and completely professional, before she put the colour on my hair, she ask me all this type of questions about my hair, since it was the first time I've been there, after me being completely honest with my answers about my hair, she decided that, what she had to do was, what's called a "Corrective Colour" I had no idea that my hair needed to be corrected, because of some idiot, over bleched out my hair before, so after three hours of correcting my haircolour, I only had to pay under $200 for the beautiful job, that the hairstylist was capable of achieve, on my hair. So ladies, I'm sure there's a couple of hairstylist there that, are not as experienced, but I have to say, that I was completely satified, with the job.

TERRIBLE QUALITY January 29, 2010

A few weeks ago I tried out the Hair Coop. I was very upset with the results. I too had to get my hair completely redone by a different hair-stylist afterwards.

Yes, the hair co-op is cheaper than other places I've been, but there's a reason why - you get what you pay for. I will never settle again, you end up paying more in the long run and looking ridiculous. The colour I described wasn't at all what turned up and there were so many blotches! I was too shy to say anything, but at least now I hope others will read this and save themselves the money and hair damage from going to the Hair Coop.

I don't doubt that some of the stylists there can manage men's hair, seems pretty simple. But ladies - you'll probably end up in tears with a lighter wallet. I see the Hair-Coop as a total rip off with stylists that want you in and out. But most importantly the quality is terrible.

The Hair Co-op, its problably the only Hair salon in where each and every hairstylist is totally independent, it also means, that each one of them is fully responsable, professional, and experienced. I've been comming to the Hair Co-op for more then 20 years, and never been unsatisfied, you can make an appointment with any of the stylist, or you can just walk-in and yet be sure that you will be well taking care off. What's more wonderful is that they are very affordable, dou to the fact that each one of them is totally independent.

I work downtown where there are lots of places to get your hair cut, so I had tried quite a few until a got lucky and found Peggy Roman at The Hair Co op. She's excellent and I have been going only to her for the past five years. I'm a man with a lot less hair than a woman but in my opinion she's the best.

HORRIBLE August 11, 2009

I was devastated after going to the Hair Co-op. I'm new to downtown and went to the closest salon, expecting a descent outcome. Emma, the stylist who ruined my hair, not only charged me a high price to get my hair done, but refused to do anything once I expressed that I was extremely unsatisfied.
I asked for blonde highlights (my hair already light), and I specified I wanted a natural look. She suggested doing low lights also, which I agreed to so long as it looked natural. When she was finished, she began blow-drying my hair and all I saw was bleach blonde and blackish brown streaks. I was nearly in tears. She was doing such a horrible job of styling my hair I told her to stop blow drying my hair and that I would go home to finish it. I thought maybe it only looked bad because of the way she was drying it. So I went home, finished drying my hair and cried. It was the trashiest hair style I had seen. I immediately called another salon to have them redo my hair. The hairstylist I ended up going to was disgusted with her work. He took pictures of the streaks which also showed large blotches amongst the highlights. He explained that whoever did my hair was very inexperienced and lazy. He encouraged me to go back to the salon, bring the pictures, and ask for reimbursement as Emma should never have accepted payment for her work. So I called Emma at The Hair Coop, and she refused. I asked to speak to the owner, at which point Emma agreed to pay me back. We arranged a date and time I would go her salon to pick up reimbursement. When I got there on that day and time (I even had to leave work early to do this), Emma had already left and left nothing for me to pick up. The owner gave me her number so I called her and she once again refused to pay me back.

This was by far the most unprofessional experience I have ever had. I think Emma is not only completely unqualified, but also provided terrible customer service. Do not waste your money or time at the Hair Co-op.
