House Of Lords Hair Design

639 Yonge Street
TorontoON
M4Y 1Z9
It’s tough to miss this glitzy Yonge Street institution, prominently located on the main strip just south of Bloor. Known as much for the music and the vibe as it is for the style and the service, House of Lords promises a hair care experience unlike any other in the city.

Populated by students, “EOY” (east of Yonge) locals and various downtown scenesters, the atmosphere at House of Lords is intense. Business is always bustling, and the speakers are always booming with high-energy house music. But it’s not all flash and glamour – the stylists are skilled, courteous, and reliable, and there are always plenty of professionals on hand. First-timers and drop-ins are always welcome, and they never have to wait more than a few minutes for service. Of course, appointments are available, and it’s not unusual for regulars to become loyal to their stylist.

The prices are tough to beat and the time investment is minimal. A typical cut is quick and efficient, so customers can expect salon-quality style without sacrificing an entire afternoon.

Tyler at the House of Lords

I had my haircut at the House of Lords about 2-3 months ago by a young british guy called Tyler. Sadly he is no longer working there - does anybody know who I'm talking about, and would they happen to know where he works now, as I really liked the way he cut my hair, and I'm bummed that he no longer work there...

    Colour Disaster

I went in to get my hair coloured and cut. Vanessa did this, really nice girl-super easy going, confident and funny but what left a sour taste in my mouth was that my dye job turned green (I can assure you I did not go swimming). I decided to go to another place and they told me that I needed a colour correction. My hair had turned from dark brown to copper-y green in less than a month.
So while the price was good at the time, I had to get it corrected which cost double what I paid at HOL.
Beware of the lighting in there, it will be the death of your hair.

I am the stylist mentioned in this review. I wish the person who left it had contacted me. I give each client a list of instructions on how to care for colored hair and if followed I guarantee all my work. Color correction is tricky work and it doesn't always take on the first go, especially if the hair was light and we're taking it dark again. The client who wrote this review could have saved herself a lot of money if she would have called the salon and talked to me. I probably would have corrected it for FREE. it sucks that this client chose to sully my name online without letting me try and correct the situation.

Hit or Miss...Unless you see Vanessa!

I wouldn't recommend all the stylists at House of Lords, but if you make an appointment with Vanessa you can't go wrong! Some stylists don't listen; Vanessa is the BEST listener ever! She really makes an effort to understand your vision as a customer and make that vision happen on your head. I used to be afraid to get my hair cut, now I look forward to getting it done :)

    Vanessa ROCKS

I hate getting my hair cut because I feel awkward around strangers, but the first time I went to house of lords I was lucky enough to be sent to vanessa. this was two years ago and Im still going back. Her prices are reasonable, she's friendly and great to talk to, and I always end up with a great cut that still looks great weeks later when I go home :)

    Hit or Miss

Beware, This place is very hit or miss, from my own experiences and from what I've heard from my friends and other reviewers. If you get a good stylist, stick with them. Otherwise, theres a 50/50 chance your hair will either turn out great, or a complete disaster.

First of all, let me tell you about my experience the first time I went there; completely horrible. I met up with my mum after school yesterday and proceeded to the hair salon. After speaking with the receptionist, I was directed to a female stylist, whose name I didn't catch because the music is way too bloody loud.

On top of that, I think we were right by the speakers, or she was speaking quietly because I couldn't hear a thing she said. We exchanged pleasantries, and then I showed her the picture of the style I wanted.

She then led me to another stylist because she wasn't able to do it, which is perfectly fine with me. I have had so many bad...

Like most men, I've gotten my hair cut by a TON of men's stylist. I have to say, though, now that I've found Anthony, I'm never going to anyone else again.

He's got a great attitude and is a visionary when it comes to styling hair.

He just knows what'll look good on you and how to execute.

As a friend of Anthony, I have to report that he's moved from House of Lords to Krome Roses in Kensington market: http://anthonyfromhouseoflords.blogspot.com/

    He's worth every penny.

    Sad

I've been going to see Crista on and off for two years since I live here and in the States. She always gave me a great affordable cut and amazing colour. One time I was there and the Owner and his wife were arguing, obviously intoxicated. It kind of freaked me out. Crista assured me that everything was okay and not to worry about it and went along with her business. Another time I was in, and a guy did my hair because it was Crista's day off. The owner, this old weird hippy came by and started making weird remarks to me. Like he was coming on to me. My stylist just laughed and said that he was like that. I called the other day since I'm in town for another two weeks and it seems Crista is gone and I don't remember the name of the guy who did my hair before. I won't go back there because the music is far too loud and the owners are really weird. I'll find somewhere else to go, it just isn't worth the hassle.

    Great

Have been dropping into House of Lords for over 4 years and have always found a good hair cut for a great price - under $25...you can't beat that!

Wow, a price like that for a haircut: pretty well unheard of in this day & age!
