Linux Caffe is a relatively new spot (2 yrs old?) right at the corner of Harbord and Grace. They make a great latte, bake on the premises, support local artists, and have a massive collection of books on open source code.
I could not say enough nice things about David, his wife, and the lovely people they have working there. This place has all the charm of a local coffee shop (you come to know not only the people that work there, but your fellow customers..and their dogs) but they up the ante with a huge focus on community and computer programming.
Linux hosts Linux meet up groups, open air screenings of movies in the adjacent park, art shows (including some by local kids). I even saw a theatre group figuring out how they were going to shake up some Shakespeare.
If you are ever in the neighborhood, definitely check this place out.
They also have free wi-fi- so there!
PROS:
warm feeling you get on your insides when you go there
CONS:
moving out of little italy (me not the caffe)
I really love it here too.
David lent me his backpack for a camping trip once.
Their WiFi network is actually SO good that you can receive a signal in the park! Which is really nice - an Ice Latte in the park while writing reviews! Sweet!!!!
I am surprised that tyler has never mentioned this place before. It seems like it would be his cup of tea, pun intended of course. I suppose I am going to have to drag him there and check it out.
it rally is a great place, and they love programmers, and tyler is a programmer.
Maybe i'll take a trip there some day with jason, he loves code, i love coffee it sounds perfect!
