Unfortunately, this is the only supermarket within walking distance, so they have my business by virtue of "monopoly", but certainly not by choice.
I absolutely hate it. As others have mentioned, the carts are insanely huge and unwieldy. I am constantly hitting things because they stick out in front far beyond where you can see.
But that's not the biggest problem. The problem is the selection. It is AWFUL. They do not carry MANY of the brands of things I use, and have been using all my life. A list of items they do not carry, and which I am used to buying on a weekly basis:
Kraft Mayonnaise. Yes they have Kraft Miracle Whip, and they have their own brand Mayonnaise, but not Kraft Mayonnaise which is the ONLY one that I want.
Old Dutch corn chips. They have Tostitos and Doritos only... but Old Dutch has waaaaaaaay less fat and calories. SOL.
OB Tampons... well, let me clarify. They DO have a SPACE for ONE size of OB on the shelf, which is always EMPTY....but meanwhile, there is at least 20 feet of Kotex products which I do not want because of all the excess packaging. I refuse.
Chicken Wings. They have all the other parts...thighs, breasts, drumsticks....no wings. Never. Never seen them any time I've looked for them.
Small size feta cheese tubs. They have only the HUGE size tubs, for about $10, which is waaaaayyyy too much for me. I only want half that size...but again, SOL.
I could go on and on and on. Every time I go there with a list of things to buy, I come home with about half of them because this store sells its space to BIG companies, which then have the right to stock the whole place with their brand and no other brands. The customer is forced to buy the products of the biggest providers and no other options will be available. Don't believe me?? I work in a bookstore where we 'sell' space to publishers, and it means you will see those products only, and not a depth of selection.
Oh, and if you find any of these products that I want, give me a call, I'll be waiting. Forever.
I totally agree! There is no need for those great big carts! They are too heavy to push and not easy to get around the store. They should have smaller carts like the have at Metro. That's the main reason that I don't shop at Lawblaws.
