I recently purchased a dress from Madeline's for my sister's wedding. The first time I was there, I was able to browse the main floor. The lady who assisted me was nice but you could tell she was busy and wanting to move on to the next customer. I was told I might have better luck with the dresses "upstairs", but would have to make an appointment for a different day to try them out, which is what I did. It was a bit inconvenient that I couldn't look at everything on the same day, but boy oh boy was it worth the second trip. They had absolutely breathtaking dresses upstairs and the lady helping us out (Rachel) was an absolute delight. If you want something unique and are willing to spend a bit (I paid nearly 2K for an evening gown), Madeline's is the way to go. Some things to note: pay parking and try to go during non-peak hours. All in all, good experience.
We went to Madeline's searching for prom dresses for my twin daughter's and as soon as we walked in the store we were made to feel very welcome and special. The owner Nick was very attentive and helped the girls pick the perfect prom dresses. My one daughter loved it when he asked her, "So is it yes to the dress?" They needed to go back for serveral alteration fittings and the seamstress and Madeline were always very accomadating to the girl's specifications and made them feel like movie stars. Several of the girl's friends also went to Madeline's and everyone had great experiences.
I recently took my niece on a prom dress shopping day of the city, and I mean the CITY of Toronto. Every shop we could think of, including the big one's that I don't need to name. All had things she liked and disliked just like anywhere else. The same issues that kept occurring were the stock. Whenever she found something she liked, no store ever had the right size, or had it in stock period.
We then took a drive to Madeline's on Avenue Rd. Upon entering the store we immediately knew this would be the place to buy. For starters, the staff actually know their stock! Everyone there is very knowledgeable and helpful. The staff actually asked questions about what my niece was looking for in a dress and hand picked her a few options to try on. She found one she absolutely fell in love with but didn't quite fit. Here is where this store really stands apart from all the others...they said "no problem, we will have it altered for you." They have their own alterations on site and can customize anything they have! This apparently is extremely rare in this city. We bought, my nice is happy! This isn't just a dress store, it's a one on one experience. I have been to many fashion capitals of the world with my wife and I have only seen a very small handful of places like Madeline's. They run a very clean, tight ship. All dresses are chosen for you by the staff to keep from getting dirty fingers placed on them. There is nothing worse than finding a great article of clothing somewhere only to find it marked by food stained hands, or threads pulled by accident. This is a great touch of class. You wouldn't walk into a Ferrari dealership and sit in one while eating a hot dog would you?
I went in to Madeline's looking for a dress to wear for my birthday party. Great selection, lots of very different stuff. I went all over the city, and if you're looking for something special, it's really the only place to go.
Based on the reviews given I called before I went to see if they could in fact help. I must say they were great. The lovely blond lady who waited on me really knew her stock and what would work with my not so perfect figure! I ended up with a fantastic, classic, black dress that I believe I will wear for many years. It happened to be the second dress she brought to me. They were great.
I would like to preface this by saying that I hate , absolutely hate dress shopping. I am now the mother of the groom and went dress shopping with the mother of the bride ( a very dear friend of mine, yes, our children are getting married....to eachother). We made an appointment for saturday, we arrived and it was so busy we could barely move. Madeline took us upstairs which was quiet, just us and Madeline. I described to her what I was looking for in a dress, she brought out 4 or 5 dresses, all stunning. I fell in love with 2 of them, narrowed it down to one and I have to say this time dress shopping was PAINLESS@!...thank you Madeline..oh, btw, the mother of the bride also found a gorgeous dress.
Went in with an appointment for Mother of the bride gown main floor is very busy cocktail party and prom the selection is in abundance they have amazing variety the staff is great and knowledgeable worth making it your only stop word of advice be patient...
"whoa whoa whoa" "no no no" is what the owner nick said to my face. After several times visiting this store, my customer service got worse and worse. The store was empty but he refused to serve me as I needed an appointment. As well as not acknowleging me when I enetered (everytime). Ready and willing to spend money as many events were coming up his rude and abnoxious comments and staff filled with attitude warrents this review. Dress selection is flashy and overpriced. Don't bother spending the money on parking! not worth it!
My daughter and I drove 4.5hrs and decided on Madeline's for her Prom dress. We were not greeted professionally at all!! All heard was take a number and pick what you want. I totally understand that is was busy, however please give the young girls a chance when trying on there gowns! Its no wonder why some young girls have a complex. Guess it all depends on the day you arrive. I was so disappointed in the service my daughter received.
I went into madelines last march to start searching for a prom dress because i heard that it gets super busy closer to "prom season"and found a large variety of lovely dresses. i personally believe if you are looking for immediate attention go in during the day befor 3 or 4 and never go on a friday or saturday, they will give u all the attention you need if you go at the right time. I ended up not purchasing my prom dress in may due to the fact that i needed a second opinion, however i came back in early april and my dress was not in stock anymore, however they were able to order the dress in (my size) and it came in no time. Madelines boutique is a great place to shop if u go at the right time. and lets get real, stores get super busy sometimes, u need to be patient and cut the employees some slack. Since my prom i have gone to madelines numorous times and always bought something.
Went on a wednesday morning to pick out a dress for my cousin's wedding. The lady helping us out was fantastic! very knowledgeable in the fashion world, and chose dresses that perfectly suited my body! I highly recommend this boutique, especially when it is NOT BUSY! (i.e. NOT on FRIDAYS, SAT, on SUNDAYS.
This might have been why people did not have such good experiences ( as I can see here in the comments)
I walked in 3 days before the party multiple choices beautiful gowns they also keep a registry of who buys what not to sell the same thing for the same party a must just on the selection staff was great ....Lori
I had spent hours shopping for a dress for my son's wedding and then my friend recommended Madeline's. She made an appointment for me. We walked in, they suggested about 6 or 7 dresses. Madeline was great, it was clear that she would find me the perfect dress and she did. Fifteen minutes later I left with the perfect dress in hand.
They recommended that I come back with my shoes for the fitting. I made an appointment and again I was in and out in 10 minutes.
Everyone at the wedding commented about how beautiful the dress was.
My shopping experience was the best ever and I was lucky to buy the dress at half price!!
After doing my rounds for an evening dress we stumbled upon Madelines while on our way back home as we saw their window display. We walked in and they had a lots of variety short long, one more prettier than the next my mother and I both found dresses for a family wedding after weeks of looking in 10 minutes increadible, the staff was helpful and fun they had suggestions and didnt hesitate to pull out more even though we had found the one worth the visit...Franca
I never thought that I could have such a bad experience shopping for a dress for my mom for my wedding.
We had gone to Madeline's 2 months prior and were assisted by Rachel, a sales girl who works there who was wonderful. We made an appointment, tried on a number of dresses and narrowed it down to two dresses. Both dresses were still on my mom's mind and we decided to return for a second round review and to probably buy the dress.
The store is split into two levels, the first level has all the standard evening, cocktail and prom dresses. The second floor is where the mother of the bride designated dresses are. When we arrived the store was full of teenage girls trying on prom dresses. I informed Madeline that we were here for an appointment and she asked us to wait for a bit. I asked her if we could browse and take some dresses with us upstairs and she said yes. We pulled a couple of dresses off the rack which Madeline subsequently hung up next to the registry. Her husband saw this and began shouting that we can't take these dresses upstairs for our appointment and began insisting that if my mom wanted to try these dresses on she has to line up downstairs, wait for a change room and only after she is done here can she proceed to her appointment upstairs. When I expressed my confusion at this, Madeline told him she has allowed us to take these dresses upstairs and asked us follow her. As we were walking upstairs I heard her husband continue shouting that he didn't understand why we made an appointment if we were going to browse downstairs.
When we got upstairs, the "appointment fitting" consisted of Madeline standing around being COMPLETELY unhelpful and downright insulting a few times. She made faces at any dress that my mom wanted to try from downstairs and kept insisting they were not appropriate for my mom. When I told her that she left two dresses behind and tried to describe the dresses she said she has no idea what I was talking about. She didn't offer to go downstairs and check, I gave up, went downstairs and brought the two dresses up which she told my mom were not worth her trying them on.
When I asked if she has any other dresses that she could recommend, she said, none that would suit her (my mom is a size 8). My dad and I walked around the store and pulled out a few more dresses for my mom to try, but each time we did, Madeline made a face at the dresses.
My mom tried one more dress that I handed to her and when I asked Madeline if she could pin her, she did it so haphazerdly that the dress continued to hang on my mom and I ended up fixing the clips myself. 10 minutes into the appointment, she decided that she was done with us and left to help a girl who came upstairs to try on a prom dress. When I asked her if there would be a better time for us to come back, when its not so rushed, she said no. All in all, it pretty much felt that she had decided that we weren't worth her time. We came in ready to buy the dress my mom fell in love with previously (with an $800 tag line) and left because we just couldn't deal with her attitude. I know that they are busy and I know that they don't have a lot of competition, but there has to be some service to go with such prices. At any other store, I would be demanding to speak to the manager but what do you do if its the owner being rude to you?
let it be said that sometimes you just need to be willing to try on something out of your comfort zone. My mother and I both went here to get dresses for my nephew's wedding and were pleasantly surprised. Both of us bought sale rack dresses and both of purchased dresses we NEVER would have picked up on our own. The staff (maybe not the teenage girls) are able to assess your size and body shape to determine what style looks best on you. Definitely not something every woman wants to hear "not best for your shape", but perhaps the honesty they need.
Honestly my experience at Madeline's was horrendous. I had gone Prom dress shopping with a few of my friends, during the height of Prom dressing shopping, we had waited in line for over an hour ( which we figured was fine at that time, as it is a popular store) for our friend to try on her dress ( the prices kinda set us off, but our friend was interested) as soon as she had gotten in line they had skipped her number twice, and when she had finally been able to get into the dressing room she has been kicked out because she gave the store assistant to hang the dresses ( so they would not get ruined) with the other dresses where everyone else trying them on put it.
She was willing to purchase a $800 dress(one of their most expensive dress in stock), as long as she could try it on, but they refused saying it would not go with her because the colour of the dress is black, and because she is black
Not knowing anything about this store other then they sell Sherri Hill dresses, we were pleasantly surprised when we started our search for the perfect prom dress. They had many styles and many sizes to choose from which was a huge relief as we are not all size 4. My daughter had seen the dress she really wanted to try on on-line and we were elated when we saw it here... only to be put off by the snooty comment to my daughter that "this will not fit you" as the sales lady promptly carried it away. I had to ask, "even though it may not fit, we'd still like to try it on to judge the style". She allowed us, but very reluctantly.
I appreciated their honest opinion of the dresses as we tried them on and also appreciated that they did not hesitate to call for the correct size.
This was the third store we looked at and I would suggest making this your first simply for their variety. : )
I went to Madelin'es looking for a dress for prom, i wear a larger size and was expecting it to be hard to find larger dresses! Madeline's had a huge selection of many dresses in all sizes! the staff knew about style and were very honest! a little pricy but worth going to. Do not call over the phone because there phone service is bad due to it always being busy! I found my perfect dress and will definately be going there again!
wow, if you need good solid advice on what suitS your body and brings out your elegance, then let madeline staff help you choose from the many gorgeous dresses. I have had so many people admire all of the dresses I bought at this boutique
I called, looking for a dress, I'm from the suburbs and looking to be spending around $600. The service on the phone was horrible. So rude and unwilling to help. If I'm coming to your establishment to spend the money and have a few questions beforehand, I don't think I should be treated like garbage. Clearly they don't need my service and I'll take my money elsewhere.
After looking at several different dress shops on eglinton me and my girlfriend stumbled upon madelines. We were looking for the perfect dress for her 21st birthday within a reasonable price range. We ended up finding a dress that was so perfect- screamed its my 21st birthday- and only $99. The sales staff was helpful and truthful. Their selection of dresses were modern and beautiful. I will definitely be going there for any future formal wear I may be needing.
My girlfriend and I came in on a whim at the end of a long day - we only had time to peruse the sale racks but found and bought 3 dresses that together retailed for nearly $1,000 - and we got them for $99 each. The owners were amazing and kind, and went out of their way to gives us the best experience possible.
