What is Pilates? Pilates consists of a series of precise, rhythmic, fluid movements achieved through a harmony of breath, concentration and control. It is a comprehensive method of physical and mental conditioning developed in the 1920s by German fitness pioneer, Joseph H. Pilates. The main focus is maintaining strength and stability from your "core" postural muscles including lower back and abdominals. Each exercise involves your whole body to improve your strength and flexibility from the inside out. The technique will correct imbalances resulting from faulty movement patterns and bad posture, making Pilates ideal for injury prevention and rehabilitation. Benefits of Pilates * Increase strength & flexibility * Improve posture * Strengthen abdominals & lower back * Reduce stress * Improve coordination * Increase energy levels * Prevent and rehabilitate injuries * Develop long & lean muscles * Increase endurance * Improve muscle tone * Enhance performance in other physical activities
