The hallmark of The Doctor's House is attentive service, elegant surroundings and superb cuisine. The House itself encompasses a world of history and old-age charm, dating back to 1974, when the original livery was built. The ambiance is reminiscent of the early Canadian past in architectural design, antiques and collectibles. The Doctor's House includes a traditional Dining Room where lunch, dinner and brunch are served regularly. It also houses five finely appointed banquet rooms to hold your private functions in.

22 Reviews for The Doctor's House Rated 4/5 Stars

The Doctor's house is the number 1 on my list and on my boyfriend`s, who is almost as picky as I am. Finding superb fine dinning is a hobby of ours, and atlas we have found it at the uber-romantic Doctor's house. The first thing I noticed when we walked in was the gorgeous interior; great lighting, exquisite decor and clean and elegant seating and tables. The wait staff were very properly dressed and welcoming. We dined here a few weeks ago so I cannot remember our waiter`s name (I believe Frank), but he was simply the best. I am very judgmental on customer service skills and knowing what you are talking about since I work in that industry, and I have never tipped a waiter more than he deserved (until now). He was the most knowledgeable staff I have ever met and helped us find the best wine I have tasted so far. We selected a French Pinot which went great with our meal. Then came the salad (mixed greens, chevre [goat] cheese, fresh berries and candied pecans; Mmmmm...). Say yes to the fresh pepper that is actually fresh unlike every other eatery. One of the top 3 salads I have had. For our main course my boyfriend decided on the fire roasted veal chop, medium rare, with Portobello mushrooms. I ordered the Grey Goose Penne, finished with a vodka rose sauce and pancetta. Absolutely delicious. I never finish my meals, except for this one.
Overall, an experience I shall hope to enjoy again. This is the restaurant that we compare to every other dining experience; 6 out of 5 stars. Exceptional.

Invited two friends to lunch at the restaurant to celebrate a retirement. We were the only ones in the diningroom. Most of the room had not even been set up. The wine list was over priced and limited - the "French" pinot noir was from Niagara. The lunch menu was the dinner menu. What an embarassment ... we ended up leaving and went to another place up the road - it was great!!! Will NEVER be back at the Doctor's House.

We fell in love with The Doctor's House the first time we visited. And we(fiance, mom, stepdad, mother-in-law)were all blown away again by the brunch...the food was superb and there was so much to choose from! Mirella was incredible- she took her time and I really felt like she wanted to make our wedding day a beautiful success. We booked The Garden Room and Doctor's Study for our 120 guests and we'll have our own private patio where cocktails and hors d'ouevres will be served.

The ONLY thing I'm worried about is if the construction going on there will be completed before mid-August. The weather has been cold, rainy and snowy lately and I wonder if it's impacting their project timeline. I really don't want my guests coming to a place that's under construction for my wedding with ugly bulldozers and muddy construction equipment everywhere.

Does anyone please have a progress update or pictures of the construction happening there? Have the walls gone up yet or is it still only the foundation laid? Thanks!

OUR DREAM COME TRUE! March 21, 2011
review from category: Banquet Halls

We've always wanted to get married at The Doctor's House. But It could not hold the number of guests we wanted to invite.(both from Large Italian Families)..But now our dream will come true this coming September 2011, the extension and renovations will be able to hold our 250+ guest list..We've frequented this venue a lot, There is no other place like this venue, we've visited all the "boxed" looking banquet halls and nothing compares to The Doctor's House. This place is beautiful inside & out! the food is amazing and the staff are so helpful (Mirella really spent the time with us)...people who "hate-post" should be ashamed, maybe you just can't afford it!! if you don't like the venue then go else where!

BANQUET HALL February 19, 2011

The gardens and chapel was beautiful and tranquil. My husband and I got the Heritage room for our wedding. It had a very rustic feel but once it is decorated, it takes your breathe away! The food at the Doctor's house was amazing. We recieved so many compliments about the food. The service was somewhat lacking and quite slow. Also, Mirella said she would be there all night to watch and ensure that things went smoothly but she was no where to be found. That was a real sore spot, I think we saw her once the whole night.

Below is an email sent to Doctors House on 30th October 2010. No response received yet......

Hi,

We had dinner at your restaurant last evening and was extremely disappointed.

The vine we ordered was not served, instead the waiter brought a vine of his choice. If it was not in stock he should have told us so and offered us the menu to choose again.
Three glasses of apple juice were ordered for the kids and that seem to have been forgotten and we had to remind again.

The starter of one guest was missed and he had to wait for his starter.

My daughter had ordered Salmon and that was missed and she had to wait for it to be cooked with the other food on the table.

I had ordered steak on the bone and instead I was served an ordinary steak. When I inquired your waiter stated as long as the food was good, thats OK. I found this extraordinary behaviour as he offered no apology.

When I went to settle the bill, the deposit of CAD 140 had not been deducted, but instead an 18% service charge added by scribbling on the bill with a pen.

Your waiter Billy took my credit card and put it through three times with authorisation obtained on all three occasions for 3 different amounts as he got the figures wrong.

We made the booking on recommendation by a British travel book and I will be writing to them about this issue, on my return to the United Kingdom. I acknowledge that the food we had was excellent, but unfortunately the quality of service was abysmal.

regards

D Ranetunge

One of the worst places I have ever worked! They are totally unprofessional and extremely rude. I wouldn't recommend it to any of my clients.

JUST BOOKED October 24, 2010
review from category: Banquet Halls

I just booked my wedding here. They have started construction on 2 new ballrooms which they say will be completed by June 2011. Both rooms will hold up to 300people. I have booked the chapel and will then be walking through our own private garden into my ballroom that will have a tent and outdoor bar and grilling stations. They have drawings of outdoor fireplaces that will keep all of my guests warm at night. It looks like no expense is being spared. August 21, 2011 I can't wait.

Is this a joke! You have been fooled honey! I went their last week to book my wedding, and the construction has still not begun!!! Unless your venue will be that be that big hole! That place is a mess. The people are extremely rude. And the Wedding Planner their thinks she is god!!!! She doesnt know jack! That place & the people there are old and outdated. They have no sense of whats in the industry. If I were you, I would not even care about my deposit and book myself somewhere else. I would not distroy the most imp day of my life! Btw, the food there is BAD too!

KINGS FEAST! April 15, 2010

We couldn't have asked for a finer dining experience, we brought our two young children with us to introduce them to the world of fine dining, and what a choice we made. From the time we entered to the time we left, absolute attention to every detail, and service, beyond anything we expected. The children were treated like Kings, And the food was superb. We will be dining there in the near future.

The food is absolutely a joke and the service was pathetic.

the price for the food is overpriced and tasted like it was left over wedding food from the weekend function.

The doctors house is a joke to the food industry! Thank you for making my wedding night a nightmare!!!

I first went there on a Sunday brunch. The food was fantastic, hot and great. A huge selection. I don't know what people say selection is "short". It was too much food. If you want pancakes and bacon go to McDonalds. Here the food is top notch and meat is very high quality. For 40 bucks the brunch was worth it and the food tasted fantastic.

I decided to take a date to the sit down restaurant and it was a huge disappointment. Here the steaks weren't cooked well at all and the food bland and suck. The chef even came out to talk to us and the guy looked like a young punk and the language. Uggggg......

Stick wih the brunches.

It's been awhile since we've been to the House, so we were very happy to see the quality of the service and food have remained outstanding. Chef Guiseppe Ferraro gets our kudos for presentation and food quality. We will definitely not wait as long to return for our next lunch or dinner. Keep up the good work!

My wife and I used to consider this one of the best restaurants in the city. It has been awhile since we've been there, every meal before was fantastic and the service was amazing. Well things have changed. It became quite clear that whoever is running the place has decided to substitute quality for crap. The kitchen has no idea how to cook anything, every item brought to us was overcooked and tasteless. The "Grilled Calamari" on the menu is in fact fried - waiter confirmned it. Our steaks were horrible cuts, overcooked and the one bite I actually took tasted like a shoe. The fresh vegetables that used to come with the steaks are gone, now you get boiled carrots, greenbeans and processed mashed "potatoes" that were obviously scoopped with an icecream scooper. The entire plate resembled something I would find at a school cafeteria. We didn't touch the plate at all. After the brutal appetizers - the calamari and fake ceasar salad - we had lost our appetites. The real joke is whoever is running the place has decided to cut corners everywhere, including the wonderful staff that used to work there, yet wants to charge premium prices. Two drinks and the appetizers ended up costing me $45.00...no tip. I gave the half star foer the changes to the decor.

WHAT A SHAME!!!!!

I frequent The Doctor's House at least twice a month. The food is incredible, the service is fantastic, the venue is the best. In regards to some of the unhappy posts, you are either thinking of another place, or you are a competitor.

We went for Sunday brunch and it was HORRIBLE! It was like being at a 2 star hotel restaurant. The bread they served was hard and fell apart; it was at least a day old. The brunch oddly did not serve toast nor pancakes (a staple in any brunch I have ever gone to); I had to ask for syrop because there was none to be found. The freshly sqeezed juice was all foam -terrible! I had to ask for the heat to be raised since it was freezing. An hour later, it was still cold, some in our party put on their coats. The eggs benedict were cold and the french toast very very soggy (what is more, I had to ask for these to be filled since I went to the hot plate twice and never found any). There was a small tray of fruit which dissapeared quickly and was never replenished. The pasta was gummy. The alfredo sauce compared to a frozen food item. I asked for waffles, but the cook said the machine was broken and he would need time to fix it. My knife was falling apart. This was not the calliber of brunch I expected from The Doctor's House? This was our first visit, and undoubtedly our last!!!

NOT GOOD November 30, 2008

Steak was well done, completely overcooked. It was not even a good cut of beef, where 1/4 was fat and/or tendon/ligaments. Butternut squash was no biggie, and tiramisu was more like cake with coffee cream.
Decor was extremely nice, which made food that much more disappointing.

The Doctor's House is beautiful. Just beautiful. Excellent food, great service, but the building is spectacular. Will keep going for a long time to come

The Doctor's House is beautiful, from the landscaping to its interior structure. Considered a historical landmark, it earned its name during the 1860's when it housed Kleinburg's many doctors. Every dining area has the touches of the old colonial architecture, but my favourite is "The Verandah".

It's a little pricey. The buffet brunches is the best deal. For $40 (adult) the selection is great. Lots of variety from salads; seafood (lobster, shrimp, calamari, mussels, salmon); cold meats (prosciutto, capicollo, smoked ham); hot items and desserts.

And while you're there, you can visit the McMichael Art Gallery, another one of Kleinburg's gem.

PROS:
Nice ambiance, great food, friendly staff, beautiful surroundings

CONS:
Pricey and a little out of the way if you're a city dweller.
