The Mad Bean

519 Eglinton Avenue West
TorontoON
M5N 1B1
Real quick about us, we’re husband and wife who have abandoned their IT and Merchandising careers respectively to open a coffee house and bookstore. Why? We love coffee, my wife really likes people (me, I was a techie for 30 years so I tolerate people) and we finally tired of working for the man, actually a bunch of men and the odd woman.

This place has a ton of character, with walls full of interesting artwork, books you can browse through, and live music almost every weekend.

If you haven't already, you should definitely check this place out. It's miles above Second Cup and Starbucks, and well worth your time.

Their website is pretty cute too. Overall this was a top notch find.

WONDERFUL! Best coffee, espresso and latte in the city! Staff are super nice. The shop has a "free" library but if you realy like the book you can buy it for a reasonable price. In the Avenue Road & Eglinton area, avoid the big name coffee places and try The Mad Bean.

This new little coffee shop has only a small selection of drinks, snacks and wraps, but everything is delicious. Try the butter tarts, they are fantastic. There is a good mix of the basic hot and cold coffees.

The atmosphere is great and the service is spectacular!

I have to say, it takes courage to open up a coffee shop *directly* across the street from a Second Cup. You have to offer something special.

The Mad Bean delivered.

I was offered little samples of the dark and medium roast - I kind of glazed over at decaf, as it was far too early in the morning to NOT want caffeine. Anyway, both samples were quite good, and I decided to go for the medium blend.

This is definitely a place where they care about the coffee they produce and the atmosphere surrounding it.
