I was scared. I admit it. It is surgery after all.
My sister-in-law is an Optometrist in Halifax and told me that if I decide to do this I should see Dr. Brown at the TLC Clinic in Mississauga. I said "But they are not the most expensive. How can they be the best?" Stupid, huh? Turns out that they are in fact the best - at least as far as I am concerned.
I went to see Dr. Brown so she could "map" my eyes. She was very nice and very understanding and explained everthing clearly. The best part about her was that she was "real". She didn't talk down to me or overly nicely - just "real". Nothing I asked for was a bother. I was amazed. I said I wanted the surgery as soon as possible (when I want something, I want it now) and it was arranged for the next week.
The best part was that I got to have Dr. Jeffery J. Machat himself do the surgery. He started TLC Clincs and there are now several clinics all over the United States and Canada. He is probably the best doctor there is for this procedure and I got him! He also explained everything in detail and treated me with such respect and kindness. He talks to you thoughout the procedure explaining how it's going.
I have found that, in general, doctors (somehow especially optometrists and eye doctors), do not have a lot of people skills, even when very skilled at their profession. I'm happy to say that at this clinic, this generalization does not apply!
I did not need to be afraid. I can see! Both close up and far away. It's amazing! I was a typical patient - all upset and concerned because my vision was not clear immediately after surgery and emailed Dr. Brown very concerned. She immediately responded explaining that my eyes were swollen and to give it time. Within a week, I could see! Truthfully, I am having a little problem with dry eyes, being an issue that is very common in women going through menopause. They are dealing with this and have already helped the problem which they claim they will get rid of completely over the next few months.
I am very pleased with the results and extremely pleased with the TLC Clinic in Mississauga. Try it. You will be very happy you did!
Congrats on finding the perfect place 4 ur surgery, Ruth & going 4 it!
Sounds like an amazing clinic indeed! From the perspective of being an RN myself & as well, dealing with optometrists myself personally (my oldest son was born with a congenital cataract!), I totally have to agree with you about the lack of people skills issue!
So nice to hear that this wasn't an issue with this clinic :)
That's fantastic!
