I had my hair coloured, cut and styled by Faten and I was so happy with everything. She is so friendly and she gave me a really good price. Now i dont trust anyone else with my hair. She does exactly what i want every single time. She's the best!

I went in to get my hair coloured and cut. Vanessa did this, really nice girl-super easy going, confident and funny but what left a sour taste in my mouth was that my dye job turned green (I can assure you I did not go swimming). I decided to go to another place and they told me that I needed a colour correction. My hair had turned from dark brown to copper-y green in less than a month.
So while the price was good at the time, I had to get it corrected which cost double what I paid at HOL.
Beware of the lighting in there, it will be the death of your hair.

    Hmm

I am the stylist mentioned in this review. I wish the person who left it had contacted me. I give each client a list of instructions on how to care for colored hair and if followed I guarantee all my work. Color correction is tricky work and it doesn't always take on the first go, especially if the hair was light and we're taking it dark again. The client who wrote this review could have saved herself a lot of money if she would have called the salon and talked to me. I probably would have corrected it for FREE. it sucks that this client chose to sully my name online without letting me try and correct the situation.

She really makes an effort to understand your vision as a customer and make that vision happen on your head. I used to be afraid to get my hair cut, now I look forward to getting it done :)

The less I say about what best looks good on me, the better it is for Vanessa's creative flow. She always exceeds my expectations. Rock on GIRL!!!

I'm not very good at getting my hair cut. The only time I ever go is if I have an event to attend (Back to school! New job! Wedding!) or if I've had a big fight with my girlfriend (now I look good, jerk! Ha!). So because hair cuts happen for me once every six months or so I needed to find someone who is made of awesome. Vanessa at House of Lords is totally made of awesome.
My hair cut is always perfect when I leave and I am usually laughing on my way out the door. I look forward to getting my haircut and now it's not just a means to an end but a super good time.

So yeah, kids. Let Vanessa cut your hair too. You know, if you want to be awesome.

Beware, This place is very hit or miss, from my own experiences and from what I've heard from my friends and other reviewers. If you get a good stylist, stick with them. Otherwise, theres a 50/50 chance your hair will either turn out great, or a complete disaster.

First of all, let me tell you about my experience the first time I went there; completely horrible. I met up with my mum after school yesterday and proceeded to the hair salon. After speaking with the receptionist, I was directed to a female stylist, whose name I didn't catch because the music is way too bloody loud.

On top of that, I think we were right by the speakers, or she was speaking quietly because I couldn't hear a thing she said. We exchanged pleasantries, and then I showed her the picture of the style I wanted.

She then led me to another stylist because she wasn't able to do it, which is perfectly fine with me. I have had so many bad hair cuts, and so many hair stylists tell me they can do the cut I want, and then go and completely mess it up. The other stylist I was taken to said, "Hi," then told me to sit down. I was kind of put off by that, because I don't mind if Hair dressers choose not to make small talk, but I at least say hello and ask them how their day is.

Please, please, PLEASE! If you get this stylist, run far away. She is a flat out bitch(I have provided a description of her at the end). I show her the picture and her first words were, "This is a really blurry photo honey." Well no shit, sherlock it's from a bloody printer! She then asked me how I wanted it done, which put me off again, I mean, I showed her a picture. Now, so you can understand my fear, the hairstyle I wanted was a mohawk, specifically a death hawk. If she screwed it up, I'd have to go bald.

So I told her I didn't want to be bald on the sides, but I wanted stubble. I'm sure most people reading this know what stubble is, but this woman did not. She the asked me "Like what, 1 or 2 inches?" So I asked her "Um, I don't mean to be rude, but have you done a mohawk before?"

I then told her about my past experiences, and how my haircuts always turned out bad, so she could understand that I was bit nervous, especially since I was going from shoulder length hair, to a mohawk.

The next thing she said was "Well that is a rude question, you think we don't do mohawks here?" To which I thought, Well I don't know, I've never been here before, and I was asking if YOU could do mohawks, not the salon itself.

She then said "Come up to the front," and marched up to the front desk, and yelled so the whole salon could here, "Can you get a guy to cut her hair? She has no confidence in women."

Not only was she a total bitch, but she mistook me for a girl! And I am not feminine looking at all. I didn't even stick around, I walked right out of the salon. An employee came over when we were preparing to leave and apologized for her behaviour, she said the woman was rude to everyone, and wouldn't recommend getting your hair cut by her.

I ended up coming back the next day, because I badly needed my hair cut and I heard House Of Lords was the place to go.So I went back with my mum the next day, and this time specified that I wanted a death hawk done. The owner was chilling at the front desk with the receptionist, and hit on my mum, he was quite funny, and very relaxed which made me feel a lot better about the place.

The stylist I got is named Anthony, and I'd definately
recommend him. He cut my hair like in the picture, but tweaked it a bit to suit me, which I really appreciate. He also removed the dye stains from my scalp at no extra cost(I dyed my hair black like 4 days ago and it stained my scalp quite badly), and he told me all about where mohawks came from and the punk movement in England, which I quite enjoyed.

Anthony is an amazing stylist and I'd definately go back to him, especially for more extreme hair cuts. The cut only cost me $35 and he gave me the option to have my hair washed or not. I declinded because I'm a hydrophobe, and I hate when other people wash and/or dye hair.

Stylist to go to: Anthony, he's British-African, and has short dreads with a red patch at the front. Very nice, very reasonable, and is a god when it comes to cutting hair.

Stylist to run far away from: The bitch didn't even tell me her name, but she is quite short, quite fat, and has long light brown hair, wears glasses, and is middle-aged. Stay the hell away from her, she's not worth it.

So in closing, I rate this place 5 stars because of the stylist I got and the general atmosphere. Some of the employees are really nice, and actually give a damn about you. The music is very loud, and I don't quite enjoy the place, but I enjoyed my time with Anthony.

If you really care about your hair and you're a perfectionist, please, please PLEASE go somewhere else. I witnessed two giant color disasters while I was there and my cut was ridiculous and not at all what I wanted. The woman tried to fix the cut, but it wasn't salvageable. There was also a great deal of activity/discussion amongst the staff. I was witness to loud arguments between "stylists" and a woman actually getting fired (I got the idea that she was addicted to uppers). A friend recommended this place to me, but I'll never recommend it to anyone else. Horrible.
Oh yeah, and the lighting's so bad, that you won't be able to properly gauge what's going on with your hair and odds are, neither will the stylist.
