A few months ago I pulled into the Mr. Lube in Kelowna for an oil change. During the oil change the guy in the pit called up to his helper asking what the mileage was on the car. He was told 170,000 kms. Shortly after that the guy in the pit says there is filings on the transmission plug and the fluid smelled burnt. When I told the helper that I just had the tranny fluid changed I got the bums rush out the door. Worried that maybe there was something wrong with the tranny I paid $165.to have it serviced again only to be told everything was ok. I was also told the plug that would have been pulled to check the level of the fluid isn't magnetic so it couldn't have had any filings stuck to it. So the staff outright lied to me. Of course Mr. Lube won't reimburse me for the $165.00. Our business relationship has ended to say the least.

I have been a customer of Mr. Lube for 30 years and today, my relationship with them just ended.
They were rude, filthy dirty (I didn't want them holding my keys), seemed to be impatient with me, lied and told me I needed something "extra" done to my car (a mere $109 "extra" charge). They can't be bothered to speak English to each other as they are chatting about hell knows what across your car...all of this, for only $102.17...From now on, I'll go to Canadian Tire

If they tell you that you need a transmission fluid replacement, please just get in your car and leave.

This place is the worst shop in Vancouver. Ive seen and employee rip up an air filter in great condition so that the customer would think it needs to be replaced. The oil level was always over full after every oil change and some clips were missing after they checked my air filter. Also double check your owners manual for the service intervals most times when they tell you something is due, its not.

If you want a free paper at the expense of your vehicles health, then go ahead.

Important Note: While the posting shows the Arbutus location of Mr. Lube, the issues here presented are not with that location but the one on Main & Great Northern Way in Vancouver.

I was a long time client of Mr. Lube. My company brought it's vehicles for service there on an exclusive basis. In particular the one on Main & Great Northern way in Vancouver BC.

First Problem: Leaking Oil Pan bolt. I only ever had the oil changed at Mr. Lube. I developed an oil leak form a stripped bolt and had the oil pan changed on my Chevy Venture Van. A few months later the same problem develops and the service person explains it is a stripped bolt, again. Having only had my oil change done at Mr. Lube it was obvious they were responsible. e-mails to head office received no reply.

Second Problem & Most Serious: I had the air filter changed on my Chevy Venture van, not an easy job. The technician had a very hard time to get it all back together. It took 45 minutes of struggle for him and two other technicians had to help him as he did not know how to do it. He also cursed and was throwing his tools around while under the hood. After leaving my Van developed problems, loud whistle sound, stalling and what seemed like transmission problems. I never thought the problems could be associated to the work done at Mr. Lube. I was super busy at work and didn't have time to deal with the problems and simply rented a car thinking my van was getting on in age and not worth fixing. Eventually I sold the van at 10% of market value thinking the problems were serious. Ends up the problem was with vacuum connections not being connected back, this problem cost me and the loss of a van that was still good for many more miles.

In both cases Mr. Lube cost me money and losses. No one answers letters sent. My advice based on my experience and personal opinion is stay away from this company. They also became very pushy on extra services.

I've used Mr. Lube exclusively for nearly fifteen years, and have rarely had problems. Sure, sometimes mistakes get made by new people, etc, but I've had more than my share of problems with "pros" and the supposed trained people at stealerships.
My most expensive and frustrating issues have always come from crooked shops and dealerships that jack the price, or create their own problems.
I just decided to put my 2 cents in because more than just the unhappy people should speak up.
Undoubtedly there are those who've had major problems with Mr. Lube.. and with EVERY other major service shop on the continent. Humans work on cars.. human error happens.
The only time I had a problem, Mr. Lube came to a completely reasonable agreement with me in short order. Perhaps because I kept a level head about it?

I totally agree with not going to Mr. Lube ever for service. My husband took our 2006 GMC truck after a month of owning it and took it in for a 5000 km check....NEVER AGAIN!! After travelling less then 2000 KMs we experienced a terrible bang under the truck....what had happened is the drive shaft came apart and other things such as your gears went and we eventually got it to the GM dealership and they were suprised we even walked away from this...what had happened is something about the diff plug not there...I remembered that Mr. lube had asked if we wanted a top up because the diff fluid was low...we thought no it can't be that low we just got the truck...well they forgot to put back the diff plug and secure it... I have 6 thousand dollars worth of damage from them not putting back the plug...and now they are saying you refused a top up well no you forgot to put back the plug...I am definetly going after them for this ...the bugger part is they won't pay up at first we have to pay it then get a claim started at the courts...I will never do business with them again.
